Listening to Radio Talk after the GF (yeah finally got connected to the AFL Feed.  Wonders will never cease)

WALLSY stated that Collingwood will really struggle against teams that have good ruckmen (just when we need OTTO).  Stats in this game was 56-17 hitouts Adelaide way.  Collingwood Midfielders are continually second to the ball because of this deficiency so hopefully we can exploit this.

They also said that having played all four games on the Telstra Dome surface could have an effect on their legs and they will need the week to recover before Round 1.  (Hope so).

Not only were a couple of players injured, including FRASER,  but there was a lot of comment about players like Malloy, Licuria and a few others being obviously underdone.  Hope we're not in the same boat.

Malthouse stated that they were "absolutely slaughtered at the stoppages" which amounted to 48-28 Adelaide way.  Hope we are upto speed on this aspect.  Will they use Dunc's and Roger to double Tag BUCKLEY again.

Malthouse also made comment that he would not like to be playing 4 weeks in a row on the Telstra Dome again so obviously he has some concerns about this as well.

It was also confirmed that Tarrant has been reported. Also stated that FRASER ankle was not broken as initially suspected.

Hope Danny has a good look at the Tape this week.

Bring on Round One.

Thanks Gustiger,

Yeah, watching the game it was pretty obvious that Collingwood were getting smashed in the ruck and around the packs. But then again, who doesn't Adelaide smash around the packs with the exception of Brisbane.

A few thoughts to add:

Rocca likes to 'cheat' and run forward of the packs and is made to look good when his players win the ball and feed him. McKee plays a simple drop into 'holes' game and hates the one-on-one. So isolate, especially when attacking.

Licuria only had to stop Cambo last time, however with Johnson and co, he won't have it all his way - with more options needing to be shut down.

Buckley is always good, however, he is made less effective with a good tagger, especially if they manage to win possession and force him to play a defensive role.

Tarrant never gets a kick on *smile*.

Jason Cloke hates being led to the ball, so this is an opportunity to play to 'long leads' instead of bombs to the pack where Cloke excells.

Scott Burns is effective without dominating the stats sheet. Basically play accountable footy, and he is marganilised.

Leon Davis hates close checking - bring on Zantuck.

James Clement is rated by some commentators as 'quick' - however I doubt this. I've seen Rory chop him up with leg speed and Rory is no 'Shirvington'.

Lockyer, gets under the guard of many people. He is dangerous and must be tagged if he starts to win the ball. Excellent at being the link rebound in the centre when Collingwood are rebounding from the backline.
You stop his flow - you well on the way to stopping C/wood.

Ryan Lonie loves space. Push him wide and keep him out of the corridors and he becomes less effective.

Wakelin has a *smile* kick and always looks for a short option. Cut this off and you have turn-over city.

Rhyce Shaw has pace but struggles for skill and decision making under pressure. Hangs outside of packs and generally a front runner.

O'Bree - fitness issues

Pretigiacomo - injury

Molloy - fitness and an a-hole

Didak: flavour of the month. Maybe try and play rebound footy off him and frag him down the ground. Make him become more accountable. (One hell of a talent but)

And what do the Tigers need to do? Two words:

Scoreboard pressure.

Nice work m_p, - keep in mind we don't have to worry about Burns, Lickyourear and Cloke for round 1 - they're all having a small holiday c/- the tribunal ;D

And don't forget possibly Tarrant as well who is on a charging charge. The thing that worries me is we have been in this position before when the opposition have been severely depleted yet we get kicked for some reaon.

Time to get Tiger Tough. Bring it on.

Did anyone else sense the irony as they struggled in the preseason GF when a couple of their talls went down with injury in the first half? Imagine how they would go if they didn't have them for most of the season. Geez they might struggle to make the eight ::).

There's a sense of deja vu watching them. Looked great so far after doing well last year then one game exposes all their weaknesses and gameplan early on in the season in primetime view of the rest of the footy world:

They need "Presti" to stay fit. Their whole backline crumbled when he went off as Clement who would normally give them dirve off a HB flank had to go FB and struggled. Cloke is not accountable. Wakelin is a poor kick.

They don't have a decent ruckman (at least we've still got one) which forced puff-puff to have to ruck. Get him away from the goals and in a position where running is involved and he's buggered by half-time. Quick get the oxygen tank ;D.

Tarrant and Molloy might as well be sitting in the grandstands when the game is on the line.. Don't give opposition coaches too many headaches.

Their lack of a ruckman exposed them dreadfully in the clearances. Their whole gameplan revolves around winning plenty clearances, getting numbers back into their opponent's forward line then sweeping forward in rugby-like fashion. Adelaide by winning more of the clearances were able to move the ball forward quickly and Collingwood weren't able to get the numbers back. This also forced the likes of Buckley to play further upfield so his influence was reduced (on that note Duncan seems to do this well when he tags Buckley).

Gotta love the look on Eddie's face after the game. Sooky-sooky-la-la. Bet they all headed into the changerooms and had a good cry ;D.
