This was posted in 2000. I thought it interesting how if you changed a few names it could easily have been posted this year.

This club needs a kick up the freckle....
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Save all this warm and fuzzy crap for your personal development class and the love one another fables that you tell the grandchildren.

This is the Richmond Football Football Club of the AFL, formerly the VFL, we are talking about. A lazy ten premierships sit proudly at Punt Road which means that we had a culture that demanded success - and achived it on a regular basis. A series of appalling and inept football administrations, recruiting and players, have seen us as the WORST performed team in the last 20 years. Even Fitzroy can boast a better record and they operated on food stamps and free weights from the 1930s between 1980 and 1994.

We had coaches throughout the 80s and 90s who insisted on playing washed up players and the worst rejects in the history of the game. Who remembers John Klug? John was there at the time of Paul Sproule but was never given a chance, mainly due to who and who wasn't matesy with Sproule. John went back to Tasmania disallusioned yet suddenly popped back with Adelaide a few years later. Klug had a series of sensational games, dominating at centre half forward, until injuries prematurely ended his career. This was one example of appalling Richmond mismanagement. Properly handled Klug might have been a 200 game player with the Tigers.

Back to 2000. Back to the Fremantle game. A one point loss flattered Richmond. A win would be have been grand theft. If Modra had kicked straight we would have been 10 goals down at half time. If that half of football represented "Real People Real Footy" then god help us. Players who stepped on that field at Colonial Stadium represented some $3 million of salary per annum - paid professionals who should be ashamed at the feeble resistance they provided to the Dockers and downright embarassed to accept money for that game.

Sure we have a fine team of assistant & skills coaches on paper - but why can't they be judged on their results. If these people can't improve our skills then they should be out on their arses quick smart - the results so far is that they have contributed diddly squat. Only ONE thing counts and that is what happens out on the field. So when Gaspar, Kellaway 1, Kellaway 2 turn over the ball 14 times in one match, resulting directly in 7 goals, then that is the same old crap we've been swallowing for years. Get rid of these bums, play the kids and get something decent in trading (there must be some other sucker clubs out there). No one doubts the sheer guts of these guys, they are probably in the top 10 bravest players in the AFL - but we need guts & skill, ala Francis Bourke, in the backline.

John Northey whipped the boys into a frenzy with a less talented list than we have now. This is proof positive that the players and coaching staff have an inability to self-motivate, have no pride in their personal performance and leave all their adrenalin for one on one discuussions with their managers a week before contract negogiations.

Finally Daffy just proved my point from a few days ago in the VFL match against St.Kilda on Monday night. A lousy 10 kicks, ZERO impact and leadership which translated to a 100 point thrashing. Gee he wouldn't be protecting his body (read: senior match payments, endorsements etc) at the expense of the TEAM??

Not very consice, but informative.
It will be the same in two years time. Gaspar the dud will still be helicopting passes to our captain, who will rack up the usual 30 non hurting possesions, toepoking the ball 30 metres in the air to the inept Kellaway clowns, who in turn will be fluffing passes to the ferals demigod, Richo.
