Stan Alves opinion of how we're travelling

Just heard Stan on 3LO.

He thinks we're headed in the right direction.

Proven coach into 2nd year of 5 so can go right back without copping too much close scrutiny.

We finally have a game plan and everyone understands it.  It's attacking and risk taking.  There will be stuff ups but moving in the right direction.

Of 39 on our list
Only 10 have played more than 100
2 over 200
9 between 50-100
17 under 50 (not including 3 yet to play)

8 players today less than 50.

A concern is that nobody has really stepped up to replace Kane.

Will take 2-3 years to produce the goods and Gas, Richo, Staff, Kella and Chaff not likely to be there then.

Concerned we've got plenty of fast mid-fielders but nobody to step up to fill KPP's.  No full back coming on. Not enough muscle.

Joel is unfairly criticised.  he fights out of his weight division every week.  He shouldn't have to fill a key position.

Hall hasn't stepped up.

Can't see the players who'll become our new spine.

Thinks we put on a brave front and doing the right things but will need to get some strong bodied players to complement the faster, but less strong players.

(That was from some quickly scribbled notes.  I think it's pretty accurate to what Stan said though)

Yeah not bad from Stan...... pretty accurate...however, i think Schulz and willy thurstfield are two probables for KPP down back...and Hughes up forward. But yes i still think we need some bigger bodies and i reckon we might fix that problem in this upcoming draft period.

Lachlen Hansen or Mitch Thorp would improve the KPP picture dramatically.

Thanks for posting that Rosy. :)

Pretty good summary from Stan.We do appear to be heading in the right direction.2008 & beyond should be successful.

Hall hasn't stepped up.

Hall hasn't copped a single flogging for a long time...Bedpan Valves probably watches one game every three seasons.

Why, oh why do these clueless numbskulls keep singling him out purely for the sake of having *something* to say?

hahahaha RW...good on ya mate, keep sticking it to them!!!

Impressed with Stan Alves' comments, heard them on the tram on the way in and I'd agree with what he said (with the exception of the Hall comment, cos RW will strangle me ;) ). The only issue I'd have is his comments about our lack of KPP's. He mustn't have seen Thursfield, Hughes, Schulz etc (as 8ball said) very often. But he's right, we do need a spine. This draft, definitely.

But great comments Stan, very fair and accurate assessment. :clap :clap
