there have been many comments made about our performace on saturday against the dawks. yes we played crap, they looked better, yadda yadda yadda...

but lets look at the big picture. richmond has had a habit in recent years of starting seasons well and and dying in the second half of the year.
- in 2002 we won 3 games out of the last 14
- in 2003 we won 1 game out of the last 14
- in 2004 we won 0 games out of the last 14
- in 2005 we won 3 games out of the last 13

we had 8-9 of our regular senior players not playing last saturday. we clearly looked behind hawthorn in preparation. if you look at out draw, we travel 4 times and play away to geelong in the first 12 rounds.

it is my opinion that tw is deliberately holding the boys back in preparation so we peak later in the year when we have a good run of games in melbourne. if we can pull off 5 wins in the first 12 games, it might be reasonable to hope we can win 7 out of our last 10 games and sneak into the 8.

Yeah, it is not so much about how many wins you have early in the season, we obviously know that! :)

Consistency over a period of time is the key IMO.

It will be good if he is holding them back a little at this stage.

The 'Chocolates to boiled lollies' syndrome has really left scar on us all, but I really can't predict the future.

I think those stats are a direct reflection on the previous coaches ability to prepare his team for not only gameday, but for the whole season.
Remember how short training used to be?
Remember Wallet's demand for extra sessions last year after having viewed the plans of the fitness staff?
TW has admitted many times last year that he tried to turn the 'sailor legged' lads into something resembling the bodies needed to stand up to the rigours of AFL footy. That is why last pre-season was so intense for the players.
As a result, it was no surprise that they again faded in the second half of the season.
With Wallet having more of a skills and planning focus this pre-season the running and gym work hasn't been as intense *by his own admission).
That factor alone may see us, for the first time in years, be able to run out a season.
Then again, we still have a lot of kids and a lot of older blokes in their twilight.

I have no doubt TW is planning to peak later in the season this year. He has all but admitted it in the media already.

poor poor deluded ferals. we really dont have the depth and list full of stars and good honest footballers that will enable us to take it easy early and finish strongly. for gods sake most of the senior players are underachievers and have shown they cant win when giving their all yet alone in cruise mode.
mark my words terry will play most of the senior players at the expense of the kids because he can get a little more out of them than the kids at this stageof their  development.after all terry has already shown its more important to him to try win a few insignificant games now than develop our youngsters and it will be to no avail the duds hacks losers and squibs will lose anyway.god help us when injuries happen to the few up to standard players we do have.

Winning rd1 gives you 4pt just like winning the last.
Makes no differance when we win them as long as we win them.

not true, winning games in the run home gives you momentum in the finals (if you make it)

I for one would love to get to the finals this year but as yet we havent got the draw this year or list to get there - simple as that. It will be a tough year for the tigers but it isnt about this year it is about the future. I just hope we can finally work out players who are still on the list that may struggle and finally give a few younger players a go.

Ofcourse we will put our most experienced players on the park early but experience doesnt always mean we are sending out our potential best in terms of future. There is a difference and if things go a bit pear shaped in the first half i for one hope we start to look to the future of the RFC at the expense of some loyal and brave players who have worn the jumper for a number of years. We cant stay in the here and now and have to start looking to the future even in the face of a average season if it does pan out that way.

It's what my wife tells me every night.

Damn, it never works.

Sorry, the titles of some threads just beg for it. ;)

Good luck, Phantom.

I try to think about Roachie's mark or raines running out of the centre, but it never work's.

Don't have the players to do this.

You'll find the opposite is true. We'll do well early on when the juices are flowing, when the enthusiasm and intensity is there, but we'll fall in a heap later on in the season.

Why? Coz we don't have the talent to win games when things don't go our way.

There was a moment there last week when I thought I was looking at Raines doing just that. Didn't last long but I could have sworn it was Geoff and not Andy.
