This is what frustrates me about the AFL. Lazy blokes like Chol are given contracts like they are going out of fashion while there are some extremely dedicated individuals in the State Leagues around Australia who could be another Lambert. The scouting and recruiting of the AFL is so narrow its a joke. Teams should have scouts flying around the country all year round trying to find all these hidden gems. Instead they go to a draft camp and watch a few videos and say there are no quality players this draft. Negligent really

Tall players keep their value even if they are crap. (Golden rule of Football and most other sports)

I’ll be *smile* why he ever left Richmond he’d honestly be on a list by now either ours or ess
Vfl listed players always are not preferenced at afl clubs when selection occurs. That’s why players like Mannagh and others end up at stand alone clubs like Werribee.
These two guys were showing a bit in the VFL in my opinion, but the death for them was Covid coming along in i think ther second year, and there basically being no VFL football.
Turner much more so than English. Patrick Naish and Turner were playing wings in the vfl and to me Turner always looked slightly the better prospect.

Agree with the general sentiment but I don’t think the issue is recruiters but instead coaches and list managers who are too conservative.

There are a lot of players in the league getting three, four and five plus years (more if they are tall) in the AFL when it’s obvious after just two that they can’t cut it. Clubs (especially ours) should be way more aggressive with player churn. This would create more chances in the AFL for players, particularly from state leagues.

They could probably show how fruitful the VFL can be without trying to pretend those 15 or so u18s who played 1 or 2 games are products of the VFL.
