My father is a volunteer guide at the MCG.
On a regular basis he takes visitors around most sections of the MCG on organised tours.

On one of these tours, a visitor enquired as to who, in a career, had kicked the most goals on the MCG, and who, in a career, had taken the most marks.

He replied that it was a good question to which he would find an answer.

My father's next port of call was me...????

Does anyone reading here have an answer to the more testing challenge:
1. Top 3 career goals on the MCG, and how many for each.
2. Top 3 career marks on the MCG, and how many for each.

My father would be grateful for your thoughts.

Richo has definantly kicked the most goals at the G !!! :clap

I'm not sure how many though !

Here you go Michael;

Goals was easy but I'm afraid marks is going to be quite a bit trickier. I'd love to sit here and collate them all for you, but, you know. :) I would say that if your father gave an educated guess of Richo, Neitz and Carey he wouldn't be too far off the mark.

That was a great read Disco - good work!

With just 20 goals difference between them you'd say Lloyd and Richo are going head to head - go Richo

Well done.

My father sends his thanks, but he still wants the marks too.
He says that he is a patient man, and reckons Richo would have taken far more marks than Neitz.
The overall comparison of Richo to Neitz at all grounds is
Richo 1988 to Neitzy 1482.

L2r2r would know.

You'd hope so after a plug like that, but he doesn't. ;D

Unfortunately the publicly-available data is incomplete, but from 1991 onwards:

Matthew Richardson 1175
Wayne Carey 869 (Carey played a further 13 games at the MCG which are not accounted for in this total)
David Neitz 810

Jim Stynes took 586 from 1991- at an average of 7.6. He played another 45 games before 1991 which gives 928 if multiplied out, though it's almost certain he wouldn't have been accumulating marks at the same rate early in his career.

Brendon Gale took 732 excluding 12 games from 1990.

Looking at players who've played at least 100 games at the MCG, I think the only other possibilities would be KB (200 games) and David Cloke (124 games), though I doubt either would have averaged enough marks to make the top three.

To summarise, Richo is a safe bet at #1, Carey is almost certainly #2, and Neitz or possibly Stynes would be #3.

The AFL probably has unofficial stats from publications like the Sunday Observer and Sunday Press - perhaps an enquiry to Col Hutchinson would provide a definitive answer.

the fact the Bombers play their home games at the Dump also means Richo is a great chance to finish on top by the end of his career.

However Lloyd being younger might eventually catch up.

Injuries could play a major role.
