I was watching the 1980 Grand Final on DVD last night and remembered Stephen Mount. He wore number 6 for the tigers.

I remembered him, but cant remember why he felt Richmond or where he went.

Can anyone tell me what ever happened to Stephen Mount ?

Hi nwonash, Mount left RFC at end of 1982 for South Fremantle (3 years), then Perth (3 years). Returned to Melbourne and spent 4 years with Collegians.

I was surprised to discover he only played 31 games for the Seniors from 1979-82 though he played 43 for the Twos in the same period.

Stephen Mount was also the goose who came out a few years ago, when the drugs in footy scandals were happening, and claimed that the 1980 Richmond football club was "on something" when they won the flag.
The club was quick to distance itself from the statement, and it may be this kind of behaviour that contributed to him only playing 31 games, despite having soem ability.
I think that even Dale Weightman in his book, said that Mount didn't always fly right & follow the rules.

Stephen Mount's most notable contribution to RFC was walking into the 1980 GF dinner with a twin on each arm...hubba hubba :P :o ;D ;D

I played on Stephen Mount in a practice match when he was playing for Collegians, very tall and thin. He made allegations after he left that certain players at RFC during his time used drugs on a regular basis.
I also remember him walking into the GF function with two girls which is ironioc as we were led to believe that mount liked guys!! :o truly!

Stephen Mount, or Mr Mount as i knew him was my year seven Science and Homeroom teacher at wesley college in St Kilda Road. One of the kids brought a footy card of him in his playing days in the (i think) 1980 Premiership team. He had a massive afro. We all thought that he had been on the 'roids himself during his playing days, due to the furious tantrums he used to throw during class. One time we made him cry. It was kinda funny.

Jexy, I too knew his as Mr Mount (or Mounty as we called him behind his back) at Wesley Glen Waverley. Granted, this was back in the early 90s.

Arguably his claim to fame at Wesley was kicking the sherrin from one end of the basketball court and swishing it in the basket at the other end.

Not sure if hes still at Collegians/Wesley College anymore.

Did that story suggest that there were little bottles filled with pink liquid doing the rounds before the game and in between quarters?

I must admit, I do remember seeing Stephen Mount attend the 80 Grand Final Ball with the two ladies - televised on 7!... I think it was at the Southern Cross. I also remember hearing about the roids.... What I don't remember is seeing him much during 82...are you sure he was around? - I wonder why he didn't play in the 82 loss?....

Birs, i dont think he's teaching anymore. And I know that he doesn't have anything to do with the Collegians ammo's side because I played under 19's for them and he was never aaround the club. Although may change soon due to the fact that Collegians are now back in A grade (where we belong) and, as usual, the bandwagon fills up pretty quickly.

Old collegians what a fine bunch of girls that lot are. Can't get a girl, get a college boy. Enjoy A Grade while it lasts.

I am one of mounty's students, and what a guy. He is one of the funniest teachers i know. If you could imagine Chopper teaching, thats what his classes are like.

Jesus, mary and St Joseph struggles...that leaves it wide open....
I mean.....If he were a priest, and he was doing the "wild thing"with the twins whilst preaching to em.....
That would put a completely new perspective on the term......

"Sermon on the Mount" ;D :hihi :-X

Mount had a good leap on him and was capable of spectacular marks. One bleak day in 1979 out at the Western Oval, it rained the whole day and we were getting pantsed; Mount flew for a screamer, had one bite, and was about to grab it on the way down when KB plucked it out of his hands with a classic bit of roving and then missed the goal.
