Why do we still have a goal square painted on the field? Useless as tits on a bull.
Another SHocking 'innovation'.

Strip the new rules back.
It still serves two purposes. When kicking out, it is play on when the full back leaves the square; and you must have one player in it at centre bounces.

Is it just me being clouded by the usual disappointment of a team on the way down, or is the game generally (highlighted by tonight) painful and unenjoyable to watch? so many changes, all adding layers of negative complexity, none of which increasing scoring or ball movement.

Its not just you. Steve Hocking should be prosecuted for what he’s done to the game.

The numerous rules changes implemented by Steve Hocking in his time at the AFL to nobble our game plan & assist Geelong's were an unprecedented disgrace that won't be easily forgotten. The conflict of interest is nothing short of disgusting.

He'd be grinning like a Cheshire Cat that they're into the Grand Final again. Please someone beat these pricks next weekend.

Not sure it's just the changes, but he did want to combat the chaos game and bring it back to kicking and marking, contested or otherwise. The Pies now play like us, Melbourne, at their best are a blend of chaos and control and Pricky has turned the Cats the same. But *smile* last nights game was BORING!

Yep what’s the chance we get another “state of the game”? Horrible game last night. Went as a neutral and left before three quarter time.

The video thing the cats put on the screen after the kick a goal is nauseous.

One thing is certain. If Geelong win the flag, there WON’T be a series of rule changes, designed to bring them back to the pack.

New rules that WON’T be introduced might be:

A team can’t have more than 50% of its players over the age of 30
All AFL venues must be shaped vaguely the same or they can’t be used for home games
Speaking of home games, teams can’t just ask for the bottom eight teams from the previous year to play them at their weirdly shaped home ground
Overweight, lumbering full forwards are not allowed to push opponents in the back when they can’t keep up with them
Overweight lumbering full forwards are not allowed to engage in ruck contests and push opponents in the back when they can’t ruck
Bringing local players back home from other clubs is draft tampering
Flopping around in marking contests is a free to the other team, not to the flopper
Players named Tom Stewart must play on a man at all times
Players named Joel Selwood are not allowed to umpire matches.

Any others?

AFLPA Prez Paddy can not single out a player from an opposition club for what he believed an illegal tackle in which himself and his Captain have been doing season after season

Forget the Geelong aspect for a moment. What irks me most about the recent rule changes is how quickly they were conceived and implemented. The result of this is that within a single offseason some clubs receive a significant benefit for no other reason than their current setup is favored by the changes. In other words, pure, dumb luck. While others were penalized simply because they were able to exploit the current rules better than most.

As a club, Richmond did the impossible by pulling itself up by its own bootstrap in arguably the most hostile conditions a rebuilding club has faced in this competition. We then took it a step further and judged, correctly, the future state of the game, building a game plan and a list to exploit it. This put us ahead of the curve and created a dynasty but certain influential figures decide they don’t like the current state of the game and want changes.

Since 2000, the competition has essentially rolled from one dynasty to another (ironic given all the equalization measures brought in but that’s a topic for another post) but for some reason ours was the final straw? During our reign, we see two major rule changes implemented in the space of three years. The last one in particular was directly targeted at us (see Leppitch comments, published articles siting Hockings frustration at our training for players on the mark).

If Geelong win the premiership this year, they will be a worthy winner. They are an incredibly well run organization and despite being an insufferable twat, Scott is a very, very good coach. However, you cannot deny that recent rule changes have favored them. Whether that is just dumb luck or design I’m not sure.

Didn't the Umpire's boss quit suddenly during Shocking's reign...not sure if the full details of that came out, but there was some controversy surrounding it.

Shocking then left the AFL role mid-season to rejoin the Cats. Why didn't he see out the rest of the season? Highly unusual

Also I think if you mark it in the goalsquare then you have a shot directly in front. If you mark it just outside the goalsquare then you have your shot on an angle.

Yeah how about this absolute arsewipe of a bloke. He’ll have a box of Cubans in his office ready to go if they win. His plan to deny Richmond further success and favour Geelong in the process is almost complete.

How this absolute corruption does not get highlighted is bewildering. He was in charge of the rules of the game and he changed them in a deliberate attempt to nobble one team and favour his own team. When the job was done he left the AFL to go and run the team that was most favoured by his rule changes. Then his role at the AFL was taken by the twin brother of the coach at the team most favours the rule changes. That twin brother is in charge of the ARC where an extremely dubious decision cost Richmond a final.

You could not make this *smile* up. I don’t believe in coincidences. Certainly not that many in a sequence. Corruption of the highest order.
