Demetriou and Gale have said nothing about the penalty imposed on Johnson. Demetriou's attitude doesnt surprise me because he is a political animal and failing to take on someone like Eddie is rather typical, (which makes it diffic for him to support the rules now.)
Gale on the other hand is a disappointment.
One of the papers quoted Gale as saying that the fine was excessive and that he was hoping to talk with the plyer/manager.
Didn't see that but not surprised. Would expect the CEO Players Assoc to be speaking out on the matter with a bit more passion. The AFL (and the Assoc) appear rather to have disregarded the existing rules to the potential detriment of all players.
As I said Gale is a disappointment and appears to be looking to his own future rather than protecting the interests of his members.
Not much Brendan can do about this one. It was the player leadership group that brought down the penalty of banning him from the senior group, he hasn't actually been punished by the club management.
Brendan was commenting pretty much straight away that he thought the penalty was excessive and offered Johno the option of contesting the decision but Johno has declined, perhaps Johno realises he has stepped out of line once to often and probably at a time when the players believe they have let their club down with their performances last year.
The whole saga is probably just one of those things that pop up occaissionaly, the boys get away with blue murder while things are going well but when things are going pear shaped some poor bastard gets it in the neck to set the example and put the frighteners up the rest of the crew.
