Demetriou and Gale have said nothing about the penalty imposed on Johnson. Demetriou's attitude doesnt surprise me because he is a political animal and failing to take on someone like Eddie is rather typical, (which makes it diffic for him to support the rules now.)

Gale on the other hand is a disappointment.

One of the papers quoted Gale as saying that the fine was excessive and that he was hoping to talk with the plyer/manager.

Didn't see that but not surprised. Would expect the CEO Players Assoc to be speaking out on the matter with a bit more passion. The AFL (and the Assoc) appear rather to have disregarded the existing rules to the potential detriment of all players.

As I said Gale is a disappointment and appears to be looking to his own future rather than protecting the interests of his members.
Not much Brendan can do about this one. It was the player leadership group that brought down the penalty of banning him from the senior group, he hasn't actually been punished by the club management.
Brendan was commenting pretty much straight away that he thought the penalty was excessive and offered Johno the option of contesting the decision but Johno has declined, perhaps Johno realises he has stepped out of line once to often and probably at a time when the players believe they have let their club down with their performances last year.
The whole saga is probably just one of those things that pop up occaissionaly, the boys get away with blue murder while things are going well but when things are going pear shaped some poor bastard gets it in the neck to set the example and put the frighteners up the rest of the crew.

I think that you are being a bit generous with Benny there TM.

The Clubs in certain situations i.e. where it suits them to make it appear that the players and admin have a single view, will delegate the discipline duty to a player leadership group.

Where it doesn't suit as in the Pies and Chad Morrison , the President or the C'ttee will do the dirty work. But the fact remains that all of the decisions by Pres, C'ttee or player leadership group, are the decisions of the Club and should be made with in the limits set under the current agreement between the AFL and Benny's player association.

Every time decisions are taken which breach these rules then all players become more vulnerable and the Assoc becomes weaker.

Perhaps the association also realises what side of the players bread is buttered and spread with jam and cream.

AFL footy is a super high profile expensive to run and highly paid competition for those fortunate enough to be involved it amounts to the dream come true.

Just maybe it's time for some of the highly paid flogs that drag the industry down into the dirt with their pea brained antics to cop a couple of swift ones up the date.

First time idiots deserve a proverbial clip under the ear and a good talking to, serial offenders that just refuse to grow a brain and pull their heads in a bit eventually get the flogging they rightly deserve.

Johno has near stuffed his career by falling off a fence or whatever while pissed, and wrecking his ankles. Has probably had a few other minor overindulgent nights that just get swept under the carpet and also been arrested twice for being drunk in public, he has also seen his club unsuccessfully try to trade him, you would think the penny would drop hard enough for him to realise that there is no more room for him to crap on his career, it's already reached overflowing.

:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Johnson is obviously not that smart. His career has been ruined by jumping off a fence, presumably whilst affected by alcohol.
Stuffed ankles, can't be traded.
If you stuff up you need to apologize straight away. Don't hide it.
