Strong-bodied midfielders?

Whilst I am so glad that we didn't give up Tucky to get Polak I am still concerned that we don't have enough stong-bodied midfielders to take us up the ladder next year. Lids, Tambling, Foley, Polo, Howat aren't stong enough yet and with Cogs & Newman recovering from injury I just don't know how we will cope against the good teams. Johnson & Tivva, with krak thrown in the middle occassionally doesn't igive me much confidence. Unfortunately you can't draft a ready made 17 -18 y.o midfielder and you don't find them in psd's so I think we will have another tough year. I don't mean to be pessimistic but unless these boys do a heap of work in the gym (which would not be good anyway as 18 - 20 y.o. bodies should not be asked to do what 23 - 25y.o bodies do) I just can't see us delivering the goods. I hope I'm wrong but...

Deledio and Polo (Deledio particularly) will be bigger and better next year Maleny, Foley will be more seasoned.

Like you, I think we may struggle again in this area, but there is a little hope of a significant improvement.

To be blunt, much relies on Deledio taking major steps toward fulfilling his potential. He put on 8kg last pre-season and should be a big, skilled lad ready for more serious duties in the centre next year. If he stalls or only improves slightly, we may well go backward.

Not just Lids. Vast improvement will be expected of Tambling and particularly Meyer leading into 07.

One of the reasons why I hope we don't get rid of Jackson. At 90 kg he's one of the few we have with a big body for the grunt work. Also think he has the running background to show good endurance in the guts as well.

Our problem stems more than big bodied midfielders.

What we lack are players with skill, footy smarts, & pace to burn.

We talk about how important first round picks are at the draft, well these three boys are our super draft additions and for us to be a force relies heavily on how they turn out.

Huge improvemnt needed in 2007

Good reasoning there Redan.
