Sugar still captain, Newman, Foley vice captains

And the more I think about Lids not being there, the more concerned I get. Why wouldn't the Rising Star and clearly the most outstanding young talent on our list (even ahead of Foley in regard to his versatility) not be in the Leadership Group.

We're not hearing the full story about Deledio. Are there issues? Is he lacking in areas?

just because you might be best player on the list dosent meen your the best at being captain

I'm pretty certain we have a junior leadership group.
If he is not part of that there's reason to ask questions.

Surely he's worthy of more than any junior leadership group?

But early reports were that Deledio had "leader" written all over him. He's been Rising star, had a reasonable 2006 and then really started to impact games last year. So where's his leadership gone?

Yep - my mistake, he was 23.

Marc Murphy.
yeah but Carltank don't count.
they had Bryce Gibbs in the leadership group before he'd even kicked a ball in anger.

Michael Voss captained Brisbane Lions at age 21. Actually co-captain with Alistair Lynch.

Champions defy "the rules" ;)

This quote on Wikipedia shows what a maestro Greg Miller is:-

"Carey was picked up after a series of events which would have left the Sydney Swans' recruiting staff slightly red-faced over the course of the late 1980s . North Melbourne club CEO Greg Miller met with the Sydney's football department to discuss the transfer to North Melbourne Football Club of John Longmire, already an established key position player. Once that deal concluded, Miller then enquired about Carey. He made a token offer of $10,000 as transfer fee, to which the Swans surprisingly agreed[citation needed]"

I'd like to see within the next 2 years a young Jack Riewoldt in the leadership group.

Jack has leader written all over him. Just needs to establish himself in the seniors first.

I guess Cogs missed out due his injury interupted career. No doubt he may have been captain if it was not for his two knee reco's.

I just hope that Foley doesnt have extra pressure placed on him and he continues to play a brand of footy we saw in 2007. I sure he will set the AFL on fire.

I don't care who captains the club, the real on-field leaders will emerge each game. I just hope the elected leaders are very vocal on the field. It's been clear over the years our team has lacked the ability to verbally intimidate their opponents ala some of the mothers that played for the kangas more recently.

17 was made a sacred number at Punt Road in memory of the great captain we had in Jack Dyer.

It's a recently introduced tradition (oxymoron ???) and I fully support it.

Sugar is going to have a great 2008 and fully deserves the 17 in 2008.

Captain of the Titanic, who career will be at the bottom of the ocean as the duds sink
too another wooden spoon!!!
No imagination that club!!!
Any wonder they are a rabble!!!
