Champions defy "the rules" ;)

This quote on Wikipedia shows what a maestro Greg Miller is:-

"Carey was picked up after a series of events which would have left the Sydney Swans' recruiting staff slightly red-faced over the course of the late 1980s . North Melbourne club CEO Greg Miller met with the Sydney's football department to discuss the transfer to North Melbourne Football Club of John Longmire, already an established key position player. Once that deal concluded, Miller then enquired about Carey. He made a token offer of $10,000 as transfer fee, to which the Swans surprisingly agreed[citation needed]"

and has been living off that ever since :-[

We are all Tiges here and everything aside Kane Johnson has captained the club which should warrant respect all the way from the #1 player to the 28,091st member. How about we get behind him and hope that he can turn it around and come out and have a great 2008.
He definately has the respect of the players and that alone is half the battle in leading a group, lets not write him off just yet!

Congratulations to Axel and Newy, looks like a sign of things to come, although don't be surprised if Deledio comes out and tears up the league this year he may leap frog both of them!

JOHNSON?....This is the same bloke that publicly critisised us (the supporters) and called us "fickle".
JOHNSON?....This is the same bloke that constantly kicks the ball to the opposition.

My god, just because he wears the number 17 we should show him respect?

I think if he is honest, he would show the number 17 some respect, and hand it in.

Leadership groups are a curse at Punt Road.

The junior leadership group at RFC used to have David Rodan and Jay Schulz. I think there was one other person in there as well, who got delisted.

I'm flabbergasted at Kayne Pettifer getting into the leadership group. I know he is a bit extroverted, but he should have to put some level of consistency into his game on field, before being pushed into that sort of position. Gaspar got demoted from the leadership group in Wallace's first year so he could concetrate on playing consistent footy and getting his body right. I could argue for Kayne being in the 22, but geeze, leadership material?

Very soon, all of the club will be found behind the punt road stadium practicing this :brickwall or :smash

He's played every game in 3 years and been our 2nd highest goal scorer 2 years in a row, I'd say that's consistent enough.

Yeah, I don't think we can question Pettifer's consistency over the past few years. With him, it's whether he sets an example in relation to the team oriented stuff (or maybe this isnt necessarily a criterion for leadership material????).

What were his goal tallys in the last couple of years?

He's played every game because of a lack of competition. Basically he wasgood the first half of 06, poor the second half. He was good last year for the first quarter of the first game, and was then ordinary for 12 weeks or thereabouts, before finishing off the season OK.

He gets shut out of the game sometimes because he gets too caught up in chatting to his opponent, and he's not prepared to consistently put a hard tackle on someone.

Leaders should inspire others, and shirking contests - which he does still do - is not inspirational.

There's lies, damn lies and statistics. Having a good amount of inside 50's does not a leader make. I think when he starts getting control of his own mental thought process, he could do quite well. Until he's done that though, he can't possibly be a good leader.

Kayne presents all day and plays in front and has not missed a game in three years. Gets plenty of ball, kicks goals, providse assists and leads in inside 50's at the club. Some leadership qualities there. Also think it will help his game as his head has historically been set at either 'ego plus' or 'insecure'. Might even encourage him to tackle more ;)

SO a bloke you say is ego plus or insecure and doesn't tackle deserves to be in the group.

Can't control his emotions and doesn't do the team things, sounds like skipper material if you ask me.
