KnightersRevenge said:I think the modern era of internet and TV have clouded peoples take on what it is to be captain. Carey had no public profile until after he left North, or if anything, the wrong one. My boy Knighter was one of the most respected captains in the league but his profile was entirely about how he played the game. Not about how he performed for the camera. Chris works hard and is rarely beaten. He can't win the game off his own boot from the backline, but has shown the capacity to kick the odd "Captain's goal".
Clearly we won't know if it was an inspired choice until we get into the season proper, but I'm looking forward to it.
yeah lots of good points tonight
But I can't agree with the Carey part. Carey had the swagger and the"my sh!t doesn't stink look" that Buddy Franklin's got now when he was about 20, you could see he was a leader.
Don't get me wrong I want Chris to go to the top but if you compare the names on the left and the immediate thought you have of them, compared to the others and you'll see what Im saying they demanded respect from all of the AFL community and that's why they got the gig..
These guys were all captains at about age 25 and had class written all over them and that to me is what a true captain is.
