PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

I was thinking about our predicament and what strategy can we possibly put in place to make a difference? Well the idea I came up with is to simplify the training goals of all players down to one simple target, fitness. I do not believe that we can improve the players skills at this stage of the season. I also do not believe that there is any more motivation, determination, or spirit etc. that can be pumped into players minds.

But the one thing that can surely be increased is pure fitness levels. The intent of the exercise would be to instruct players to (attempt) to run opposition teams off their feet. We aren't making any impression as hard men, so lets run and run and run. If we could just get an edge over some other teams in pure aerobic fitness level, maybe just maybe we can edge past them on the score board. I am trying to imagine a situation where players more frequently have an option to handpass or kick to because the guys have out-run their opposition. Maybe in the last 15 mins of a game, if we have somehow kept in touch on the scoreboard, this would make a vital difference.

Get fitter, get faster, run all day. Run to space, create options. When you have run your opponent ragged, then run some more. It's not complicated, and who knows it may make a difference.

With flame proof suit of armor on, I hereby submit this idea.
