O.K....calling upon...phantom,pharace,tigerofold,mb64,etcetc...
Last nites game between the liars and the bummers.....I thought a supergoal wz kicked(amongst others0....It was clearly kicked OUTSIDE of the 50....bounced about 1o metres(more or less)then went through the sticks....
Not that I care the least.....but my question is....
DOES THE BALL HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE GOALS "ON THE FULL" TO BE A SUPERGOAL? :-\
The maggots stuffed up and had to change the score, with due pomp, ceremony and flag waving before restarting the game after the qtr break.
The real question that needs to be asked.
If they can correct an error during the breaks of a wizzfizz game why can't or won't they do it during the real season?
There is always going to be the odd stuff up by goal umpires but there is nothing to stop the AFL putting in a third umpire to review dodgy decisions and correct the error at the qtr breaks.
It may not work for all dubious scores but for the ones like the Dawks Bummers game last year where it was blatantly obvious that the umps got it wrong it should be mandatory.
Imagine the song and dance in this era of so called professionalism if a side missed a crack at the finals by a game or half a game because a dopey bunch of umpires can't tell who kicked the bloody goal and a side lost a home and away by a couple of points.
Or even worse some one dropped a tight final. Think of Libba's or Rocca's near misses in recent years.
Just so there is no delay or interruption to the game the simplest procedure would be for the umpires to adjudicate as they always do with no referral to a third umpire.
The third umpire just observes the game from his booth and reviews any dubious or contentious score and notifies the central umpires and scoreboard of corrections during the breaks.
There would only be one or two per game that need reviewing and it would definately be unsuitable for field decisions.
