Footy fans have been able to play the role of virtual coach or manager for a long time with online footy leagues. But fans of Richmond Tigers AFL club have taken their obsession to another level by forking out hard-earned to buy a real player. Upset by the club crying poor and deciding not to recruit a third rookie for next season PuntRoadEnd.com website asked permission to raise funds to pay for one themselves. The club gave its blessing and by this weekend the site had recorded more than $10,000 in pledges. A rookie reportedly earns about $35,000 so the supporters are well on the way there. It could be a wise investment for the fans if only to help them feel justified in screaming abuse at their recruit from the stands."

The last negative sentence is p-poor - he could have written - "It could be a wise investment for the fans as they scream from the stands their delight after watching their recruit slot the winning goal in the 2006 Grand Final."
