Taking questions for President Peggy O’Neal

For Toby64....

Do we have a top 4 list ?
or

Is it our coach, assistants or recruiters letting the whole club down ?

What are three key measurable benchmarks of success for the football department in/for 2017.

What does success look like in 2017, and what are your non-negotiables for achieving it?

This is a kind of pair. It's a good pair.

What is Peggy promising in terms of on field performance in 2017? But more precisely.

First reaction is that this is a welcome interaction by the Prez with her loyal suffering troops.
However, I can't help thinking requesting an entire fan forum to distill their thoughts into a grand total of five questions is wholly inadequate, and also somewhat insulting.

That's fair if you feel that way, and if yours is a question this board wishes to ask, then it's in.

Peddle.
Who on our board are suitably qualified and have first hand experience from clubs with winning cultures to review the short comings of our football department or are our heads of football departments reviewing their own positions/performances?
Why did the board decide that once the 2 most qualified candidates were gridlocked in a tied vote for club Presidency to give it to a rank outside third party to appease both factions?
Why didn't we recruit Jeff Gartlett and then spend the next 2 years either trying Steve Morris or high draft picks ( Rioli ) to recruit such players and fill a desperate need?
On a lighter note.
Did a ruckman once hurt Hardwicks feelings, giving him a lifelong hatred of big men?
Do you think Riewoldt would make a good forward?

By way of comparison, I give you the example of President Eddie at Collingwood, who, after in the past after overseeing a disappointing year and feeling the disquiet of his members and supporters, held an open and free fan forum where he articulated the club strategy and then allowed himself and his board and management to be fairly exhaustively questioned on a whole range of topics.
This was a brave and transparent exercise in management communication with the people who bankroll their operations, by an experienced club heirachy that has a pretty reasonable track record and is willing to held to some account.
And what do we get at Richmond, home of the greatest underperforming football club in the modern era?
A president who deigns to answer a grand total of five questions.
Forgive me if I am underwhelmed, but this PR sop exercise ain't gonna cut it.
And so if I have to stoop to participate in this exercise, that would be one of my questions :
Why won't you hold an open fan forum to present the clubs blueprint for arresting the very clear inadequacies in our on-field performance, and justify the board's and key football department executive's on-going employment in light of our very obvious shortcomings in coaching, list management, recruiting, and management?

Are we allowed a protracted sanctimonious intro to our questions?

Peggy this club lacks toughness and resolve. We lack the ruthlessness needed to succeed at the highest level. We get pushed around on the field and we cannot protect our Captain and other important players. What as a club are we doing about correcting this issue?

Is it culture or is it the people?

I reckon we should come up with 5 categories then ask a combination of the questions in a way that will hopefully get as much info as possible from Peggy.

For example

First...The DH ones. (Said he'd leave if we stopped improving, contract extension, any clauses etc)

Second... Dan Richardson and recruiting staff

Third...The Board, rotation of directors, need for a football director

Fourth...Membership, JDF and financial situation

Fifth...Onfield results. Thoughts on this season, measure of success etc.

Any additions category wise that people would prefer?

P.S. CM good one on the end of season trip to Chang Mai...If you mean the PRE team I'm in. Geez the mind boggles, ha.

One of the biggest risks for fans/members is when club administrators/coaches make decisions that emphasise short term gains at the expense of long term success to protect their jobs. Can you please outline what measures the club is taking to prevent this sort of behaviour?

Dan Richardson recently said, "We didn't think Richmond fans would accept an eight-year rebuild". If the club's administrators thought that an eight year rebuild was necessary to win a premiership, why did they think that Richmond fans would accept anything less? Was the club worried about remaining a going concern? I'd point out the response from fans on this website to the recent loss to the Western Bulldogs to demonstrate that we are more than happy to suffer losses when we can see the long term benefits of playing youth ahead of more experienced players that are unlikely to be part of a premiership team.

Given the poor on field results this year, especially the start of the season, do you expect the membership to significantly decline? If so how will this affect the financial standing of the club?

Further to this, if there is a decline, will you interpret that to mean there is a significant level of discontent amongst the members regarding the Board and/or football department? What else would you attribute it to?

Great questions Gia!. Love the actual quote from Richardson thrown in. Reckon the DH question needs that.

Given that Richmond have not been above 8th position at the halfway mark of any season, and have not won a final, under Damian Hardwick, what do you consider is the improvement that warranted an extension of his contract?

Who is accountable for the on field failure of the Richmond Football Club in 2016?

Why does the Richmond Football Club fail to entice any marquee player into it's ranks given that we are told that there is a "war chest" available to meet such a situation?

Many members believe that a term limit should be placed on board positions to allow for fresh ideas and energy to cycle through the Club. What is your position on this and why?

You don't have to. :)

To be fair Rosy RFC official has posted that 17's question was fair and reasonable.
Even happy to have 17's question put to Peggy.
I would like to second his question.
Can we please have a full and frank forum question and answer session along the lines that was undertaken by Eddie and the Collingwood board.

Frankly five questions from pre and big footy just isn't enought for a membership of 70 000 plus members.
