Talking Politics

Blessed is probably where he stepped over the mark. But I'm sorry, I don't think the rest of it is saying anything that denigrates the disabled. You can have a huge amount of admiration for the way those with disabilities can overcome their challenges and make massive successes of their lives, and still be grateful that your children don't have to face those challenges in their lives.
to generalise, people with disabilities, and their families, dont want admiration, they dont want sympathy. they want the chance and support to achieve whatever they want to achieve.
this government, and Morrison in particular is big on "sympathy" but he isnt interested in supporting people.

and he, and his government, fail to understand the economics of the NDIS. They talk about the cost "burden" but ignore, or dont understand, the economic benefits the scheme provides.

of course he didnt actually mention funding- his gov has done what they can to gut the NDIS. They didnt want it when it was introduced, and they still dont but they are stuck with it.

Bit like Medicare which is totally and fundamentally against their ideology. Remember it was the LNP who killed Medibank which was the first iteration. They can't kill Medicare but they can gut it enough to make it a safety net rather than a universal health system.

The NDIS goes against LNP ideology, they would like to kill it but they can't, so they run it down as much as they can.

Yes David and both parties have to think about how they deal with these inconvenient truths about our “mixed model” healthcare system.
The fact is that private health cover and Medicare has become partly just a safety net and part of the issue is the uncontrolled charging of doctors. Some of them are making obscene amounts of money propped up by an cartel like specialist college system together with universities controlling specialist numbers so demand exceeds supply.
On top of this we have a move of corporate raiders into our private hospital market which won’t help pricing in the private space. KKR’s bid for Ramsay Health being the latest
These dynamics are going to our even more pressure on our public system as people abandon private health insurance, which is already happening

They would explain the wait my wife had before she could see an Allergist/Immunologist, 6 months from when we got the referral.

is there no end to this blokes and this governments suck-hole vote lure bulldust ?
A re-elected Morrison Government will provide more than 100 new projects across Australia’s coastal and regional communities to extend boat ramps, jetties, cleaning stations, disability-accessible toilet blocks and campground facility upgrades,

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the Coalition was backing in recreational fishers, campers and boaters.

Australians love getting out to explore the great outdoors, if it’s the weekend fishos, boaties or the family going camping, this program supports them by upgrading the community facilities they need,” the Prime Minister said.

“Recreational fishing has significant economic and regional benefits – it’s good for regional tourism, creates local jobs and supports small and family businesses as well as benefits for physical and mental health.
wait, there's more ... application based! who woulda thought ...

The Recreational Fishing and Camping Facilities Program is administered by the state and territory governments paid directly to local councils. Each jurisdiction is responsible for opening their programs and local councils must apply through this process.

If you know of a location that would benefit from new or improved fishing, boating or camping facilities in your area, you can contact your local council to advocate for their application to this program.

Saw somewhere just recently the video of Dutton cracking a joke about water lapping at Pacific nations doors. Labor should be mentioning that as part of the Libs not caring and dropping the ball in the Pacific.

I'm hearing ya.... I should have become a doctor instead of a tradie. .. only profession where YOU get to tell the client YOU have their repeat business, how often YOU want it and how much YOU decide to charge.

Case in point.... my very elderly mum apparently HAS to see an endocrinologist who charges her $300 for about 10 minutes of .... "hmmm, ohhhh, let me see, yes, hmmm not much change, ok, see Dorothy on the way out and have her make an appointment to see me in 6 months."

"How'd you go mum"?...... "Ohh.... Professor _ _ _ _ _ _ says HE thinks I'm going ok but HE needs to keep an eye on things."
"What things mum"?....... "Ohh , he didn't say!"

They aren’t randoms TM, they are human beings
WTF seriously! Randoms = random people = you guessed it human beings. Perhaps you need to wander outside n go to your area shopping centre or the footy. Guarantee you'll find *smile* loads of randoms shuffling around.

P.S. While you're busy getting all antsy n offended about all these poor human beings, you may be surprised to realise that there's not much that's special about human beings beyond our belief in our own overweening superiority to every thing else. If you pay close attention you might find that humans are the most vicious, destructive, manipulative n down right nasty *smile* critters on the planet.

6 years ago. Got plenty of air time. All he did yesterday was half apologise for it.

On the whole Solomon Islands thing, what the Gov is dancing around is the fact the Pacific Nations flat out refuse to talk to Paine. When she came onboard there was no attempt to build a relationship with the leaders and treated them with no respect.

The Coalition, and particularly this government, really hates intelligent people. I mean really hates. The reason is that their corruption and incompetence is obvious to anyone with a brain and an ethical framework.

Explicitly excluding universities from the covid assistance measures was a scandal. Millions to Harvey Norman but nothing to scientific researchers trying to solve the worlds problems. Stuart Robert as Minister? Its outrageous.

Excellent post. The university’s need to start opening up more places, and stop being part of the problem. With less overseas students now is the perfect time to pivot and get more medical professionals trained.

Yes, he did apologise at the time........................I'm sure that made them feel better.

And then in 2019 when the Solomons switched it's diplomatic ties from Taiwan to China, 5 cabinet ministers who voiced their disapproval were removed from office, hello, any alarm bells ringing yet. They certainly weren't ringing for Donald Trump and Scot Morrison.

The pair of them are from the school of, **** you Jack, I'm alright.

I assume you are either joking or have absolutely no idea how universities work?

Back about 30 years ago over 50% of university funding was recurrent funding, the rest would be research grants and the like, then student fees.

Now about 80% of university funding is from student fees.

2 things to bear in mind here:
1: universities lose money on commonwealth supported places, that is, undergraduate local students (a local student is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen).
2: universities are expected to undertake research for which they are massively under-funded. For example, if you apply for a grant to do some research it is about 15% likely to be funded (and what a waste of staff time it is that 85% of grant applications are unsuccessful) and any grant will have to include "in kind" support from the university.

The funds to teach undergraduate courses to Australian students and undertake research has to come from somewhere. Guess where it comes from? That's right - student fees.

With less overseas students universities cannot afford to fund the places they currently offer, let alone more places.

To claim that reducing international student numbers would help open up places to Australian students is simply ignorant, it would do the complete opposite.

To be honest I have no idea how people can be ignorant of this, it has been going on for decades, without fees from international students most Australian universities would be bankrupt.

all true DS, but you forgot to mention a very important point.

Labor have an ideology of heavily subsidised education for a better society

Liberal believe, as in all things, user pays.

Liberals also hate working class people being educated to the point where they can criticise them with well researched data, presented in their very own elite forums. They hate it. why do they hate it? because private secondary schools produce Liberals, whereas certain departments of Universities produce smart humanitarians, who deal in truths. and when University is cheap, theres no obstructions to working class people gaining a tertiary education.

so they slash the funding and kick them in the guts, every chance they get. They were one of the few industries that wernt eligible for job keeper during the pandemic . Why? cause the Libs hate them and will take every opportunity to give them a kick.

why are universities reliant on fee paying foreign students, and why has their research increasingly become quasi R&D departments for big pharma, big coal, and why has training increasingly become vocational training for big business?

cause the Liberals have consistently taken a hatchet to University funding,

so that they dont have the time or the money to educate articulate, uppity workers, or research and publish an understanding of why the neo-conservative world is completely *smile*

I notice you always refer to him as “Morrison” or Scott Morrison. Good.

People who refer to him as “ScoMo” or
“Scotty”are inadvertently using a cushy, near term of endearment. Which is exactly what him and the LNP want you to do. Good ole “ScoMo.” Your mate.

Each to their own, but if you’re as serious as I am about this lying, incompetent PHONEY ahole, then you don’t refer to him in any matey context what so ever.

Morrison, Scott Morrison, DudMo, SloMo…whatever. But never “ScoMo” or “Scotty”.
