Talking Politics

I have just been reading on the ABC site about the dirty tactics being used in the Batman election. Elderly people were called and told they didn’t need to vote.

There needs to be a full investigation into who called and who was behind it. And there needs to be appropriate punishment as this is a disgrace picking on our communities most vulnerable. If any party is behind this they need to be fined and forfeit all electorate funding given by us tax payers.
If it is one of the parties i cant believe theyd be so stupid in these times to do such a thing.

Why haven't the Labor fraudsters been charged?

Andrews you are pathetic beyond words.
Dunno but cue Labor apolgists excusing this and putting focus on the Libs somehow.

If the average person on the street stole from their employer, off to court (not necessarily thrown in jail in Victoria). A politician does it, it's called a rort, they can pay back the money and maybe apologise and that's the end of the matter. Bloody disgraceful.

Either they knew the rules and went ahead and broke them, in which case they are borderline criminal at the very least.
Or, they didn't know the rules, in which case they are incompetent.
In either event, that makes them unfit to govern.
Didn't that fool Andrews state when this first came out that he will take full responsibility?

Cause they haven't actually broken any laws.
Afternoon Ian, so have they done the "wrong" thing? Have they done the "right" thing? Just wondering if it matters.

Of course they have done the wrong thing, and they should resign. I'm talking from a criminal perspective.

Very balanced post. Fully agree.

I hope we remember this come election time.

L6ets run the gaunlet L2. Charge ALL pollies who have rorted. Who would be left in Canberra?

I think it’s more serious than that. We need more answers. Did the state ALP have the funds at the time in their account to pay for this campaign? It feels to me that the parties are taking a James Hird approach to winning elections. Whatever it takes. Look at the older Australian’s being called in the Batman election.

We need to draw a line in the sand. It needs to be stamped out. For mine it’s fraudulent and if it was done in private enterprise charges most likely would have been made and heads would have rolled. I think this is bad enough to call an immediate election. However we all know that it won’t happen as Andrews will again use Government funds to hide behind legal process.

If they get caught then yeah, charge them. It's not OK for someone to steal your car and simply hand it back when they get caught. Andrews' response so far has been telling - the end justifies the means.

Cannot expect to have stability while your leaders are openly indulging in rorts. The fish rots from the head.

They should be, as should any politician rorting the electoral system. There are rorters in all Parties and we should charge the lot of them or at least get them out of office

I think It’s worse when it’s labor. They’re meant to be the honest for the worker party. It’s business as usual for the libs.

Lol. Honest political party these days is the definition of an oxymoron

Could not locate a more relevant thread but I did think that the meeting of North and South Korea leaders was worth a comment.

What clicked in Kim Jong-un's head? Did the Winter Olympics wake this bloke up? Good to see him co-operating with South Korea.

Wouldn't read much into it. Likely posturing to make sure he can down play any Trump nonsense.

Blew up the testing caves accidentally. Fancies himself getting a good deal from Trump. Worth dipping the toe in the water.

He's playing the west for fools. Which is interesting because I never thought he was this smart.
