Talking Politics

yep. You forgot Mals work botching the NBN. Was too expensive and too good for everyday Australians apparently, (read we can't endorse or continue any ALP policy or plan ever no mater the merits and benefits to the nation), so he made cuts, BUT IT ENDED UP COSTING MORE! Yep, Mal delivered an inferior product that was more expensive.

Thing was, Mal knew the original NBN was superior. Didn't stop him sabotaging it and misrepresenting it.

you can thank Uncle Rupe for that.

I had high hopes for Mal. Thought he was a good moderate leader who could drive changes and policy that made sense.

that's what he looked like from the outside. but all that mattered to him in the end was power. he would have sold his mother to keep the far right happy if it meant he could hold onto power.

I blame Howard more for his creation of the middle class welfare state we're in. Payments, allowances etc. Then his stoking of the property prices to make everyone feel rich has meant the next generation have little chance of buying their own home.

yes that too. Spent billions on buying votes. A lot of money that should have gone into nation-building infrastructure went to Harvey Norman. His blowing of the 00s mining boom money is one of, if not the biggest and most scandalous wasted opportunity in our nation's history.

lets not forget the never ever GST, the child overboard affair, workchoices, taking us to war. the list goes on. history has not looked too kindly on the Howard and Costello era.

Nothing wrong with GST. Fairest tax around. Based on consumption

Meg Lees and the Democrats say hello.

actually to be fair, now that its here for good, I can see an argument to raise the GST and reduce income tax as an incentive to save. pay less tax on what you earn and pay more tax on what you spend.

Very correct - the GST should be something like 15%, but who in Canberra has the guts to suggest it and have a decent debate?

People forget, GST and a simplified tax system was actually one of the items Paul Keating desired as part of his overall economic reform. However it proved a step to far to get his Party room over the line with. They'd been dragged begrudgingly on the rest of his economic reform agenda. But wouldn't yield on serious tax reform.

This spill is so absurd that I wouldn’t be shocked if the Focus on Football clowns had a hand in it.

I wish. FOS never got within a hare's breath, thank christ, Dutto will, big diff.

I see 4 possible future scenarios.

1. Dutton will get in and lose in a landslide due to pushing the right wing agenda too far, there just aren't enough rednecks in this country. There's a lot, but not 40%.
2. Dutton will get in and carry enough people to the right in Trumpian fashion and he sneaks in in Trumpian fashion.
3. Dutton gets in and softens his image and policy stance and loses in a landslide for standing for nothing.
4. Dutton gets in and softens his image and policy stance and the electorate buys it and he sneaks in.

:hihi

Do you know Dutton boycotted parliament when Rudd apologised to the stolen gen?

Highly principled man.

His wifes childcare business wouldve certainly got the $6m public money on her merits too

What a guy is P-Dutty

Another great strip from First Dog on the Moon, on this topic

Turnbull finally showing some gumption - has referred Dutton's S44 thing to the GG - has said he'd quit parliament if he loses the spill meaning the Speaker would have to support government legislation.

Wish he'd stood up to right wing nutjobs way earlier, it's a bit late now Malcolm.

Can Turnbull pull out the ultimate 'give the back stabbers the bird' by calling an election?

Let's see how much they would be celebrating then...

Priceless!

Bring back Abbott

Great idea. Obvious he's a man of integrity who puts the nations interests ahead of his own. Cares about the environment and future generations. And the walk gets more gorilla by the day which is great indicator of his rock solid mental stability. Fresh onions in schools could be on the cards too.
