Talking Politics

I've been surprised all along that no-one moved against Shorten. Has never even been close in the preferred PM discussions, always been a distant loser. Were labor too arrogant to think it wouldn't matter or was the party too weak to make the right move for their party. Either way, it looks really poor for their party, either weak or arrogant.

Maybe a tactic to not come out as hypocrits after bagging the Libs instability with Abott & Turnbull. Who knows, as I can't think of anyone with real strength to take over, and then again, changes must be made after this election as Shorten's done his time.

Labor had populist policies, but the wrong salesman. I'm a Labor voter, but i've never been able to take to Shorten.

With what's going down between the USA and China, i think it might be a good election to lose.

Funniest thing about election days is that every channel and website has different figures showing. Which one is real?

Reckon it will be Tanya Plibersek. Shorten and Bowen are clearly unelectable and have been through the whole campaign. I agree though, after bagging out the Libs for chaos (though I do find this hypocritical after the Rudd / Gillard debacle) they'd made their bed.

Some of their policies were populist but they alienated a lot of swing voters IMO with some of their other policies, especially around the way they attacked negative gearing (they went down the wrong track with this). Might have been good policies for hardline labor voters, but not for swing voters.

Bill Shorten has never won a preferred PM poll. Why has Labor persisted with him for so long? He's the least likeable candidate I've seen. An inanimate carbon rod would have *smile* this election in for Labor.

Probably the greatest choke in Australian politics.

I don't like ScoMo, but as a lib voter I'm happy.

Now we're hearing the Reds are making a late comeback and we could end up hung. Please no!

Voting on Labor is suspended on Sportsbet.

That bloke who put $1m on Shorten at $1.10....

Edit: back up at $7

Spot on posh. It’s obvious people didn’t respond to the *smile* Robin Hood rhetoric that Shorten campaigned.

When houses in the middle suburbs of Melbourne are $1m plus, $170k per year does not make you wealthy Bill!

Yeah Posh is right. Shorten never been popular and will have to resign now.

Some good points being made about inner city woke folk telling those living out of the city what is good for them and what isn't.

It’s certainly right up there with Hewson in 1993.

ScoMo is probably the best of an uninspiring bunch. Put it this way; who else could lead the party?

Staggering choke really. I guess the writing was on the wall with Shorten being a Pies supporter.

Does this mean PRO gets redeveloped?

Yeah I don’t think the voters in North Queensland give a *smile* about what hipsters in Fitzroy think about Adani.

Both sides of government seem to shaft us.

Suspect the locals actually wanted the mine.

REckon the reaction is going to be akin to the Democrats sooking after Clinton lost to Trump

It will be interesting to see what the reasons are when the defeat is analysed. I think one of the factors will be the housing market, people who are in negative equity will have been spooked by the threat of house prices falling further because of Labors policies.
