Gold - after the #LiarFromTheShire #CrimeMinister #ScottyFromMarketing huffed and puffed about girls having to change behind trees, we learn that the LIBERAL GOVERNMENT "ignored Sport Australia recommendations and rejected at least 12 grants for female change rooms at local sport grounds, including one where women and girls are currently changing in tents".

But documents seen by the Guardian show at least 12 applications for grants to build or upgrade female change rooms were rejected by then sports minister Bridget McKenzie, despite receiving excellent scores from Sport Australia, the body that assessed proposals against objective, independent criteria.

One of the rejected applications – a bid by the Cherry Gardens Ironbank Recreation Ground to build female-friendly change rooms – scored 94 out of 100, one of the highest scores in the nation.

The club said it was “incredibly frustrating and disappointing to all our volunteers and members to know our facility was adjudged to be deserving yet has not received funding”.

Another rejected application was made by the Brothers Rugby League Football Club Innisfail in Far North Queensland, which sought $295,500 to build female change rooms at Callendar Park, a ground shared by a range of sporting teams, schools, regional sports competitions, and Indigenous sporting carnivals.

The ground currently has nowhere for women and girls to get changed.

“They have to hunt the men out of their one, and go in there, or go in the gymnasium, or a toilet block in the netball court,” club vice-president Vince O’Brien told the Guardian.

“That’s where they would go. Or put a tent on the ground.”

The money was sorely needed in Innisfail, which sits in Bob Katter’s safe electorate of Kennedy. The local economy is struggling due to weak sugar prices, and the region has been hit by two major cyclones and a flood since 2006.

O’Brien said the grant would have given local builders some work and helped boost morale in the town. He hired a professional grant writer and surveyor to prepare the application, which he said “ticked all the boxes” of what the grant program aimed to achieve.

Sport Australia deemed it worthy of funding, scoring it 76 out of 100.

But the application was rejected twice, in rounds one and two of the program.

O’Brien said it has been deeply disappointing to since learn that his application had lost out to projects scored in the 50s or below.

Wealthier clubs like the members-only Royal Adelaide Golf Club, one of Australia’s most exclusive golf courses, the Mosman Rowing Club, and the Applecross Tennis Club, which boasts “million dollar views” of Perth’s Swan River, were successful.

Guardian Australia has also reported that the Old Collegians Rugby Club in the Coalition-held seat of Sturt received $500,000 for female change rooms despite its women’s team quitting because of a sexism row. The club’s application had a score of 60.5.

Crooks. Liars and crooks.

Yes but, but, but an Adelaide rugby club, who hasn't got a ladies team, got a $500,000 grant for a ladies change room.

So what were the improved levels of planning process, scrutiny n political purposes utilised in our other tunnel that's also not getting built? I've found over the years that both mobs are extremely competent at shoveling bull ****, trashing huge amounts of money n ******* up just about every major thing they touch all at the poor farkwit voters expense.
[/QUOTE]
Not sure of the point you are making TM. I think what I have said is that they are both hopeless.
However there is a standard process for large scale project planning in our state government which is set out by Treasury. That wasn’t followed by the LNP government for the East West tunnel. Following the process doesn’t mean a project is perfect clearly but it does mean that there are more gateways and checks to get through.

I am not sure of the point you are making TM, I have already said that both are hopeless.
My only point was that there is a process for large capital projects in Victoria. It is set out by treasury and for political reasons the LNP didn’t follow it for the East West tunnel.

So should the tunnel have been built or not?
The city needs connection, its already got socialism by spades. Should Dan have completed the build on the tunnel or just pissed the cash up againsts the wall as he did and blamed others for his decision for a purely political decision????

Roads are like coffee tables. As soon as put one in a room you find crap to put on it. Adding lanes, tunnels doesn't ease congestion it just moves it around. The solution that is so odious to modern (last 50 years or so) English speaking governments is expansion of public transport. The only way to move large numbers of people efficiently and safely is trains. Yes the tunnel was a good idea but the Abbott government was holding the state to ransom and trying to pressure voters into voting Liberal in order to get the money for tunnel IIRC. It was a terrible way to run project and the Vic Libs were being desperate and profligate in trying to get it done that way. The Labor party decided not to find a "third way" and build the tunnel a little later and with a proper process but chose a political bun fight and to try to slap egg on the face of the Libs. Politically it hasn't hurt them too much, so it could be argued it was a good decision. All infrastructure spending should be tied to rail for the foreseeable future. Freight and passenger. It will only get worse.

Just think how good it would be though if it had of been built years ago. Preemptively improved Melbournes transport during the population boom it has experienced in the last few years.

If you read my first post on this subject I said that I think the tunnel should have been built. I am in favour of it.
My point, which seems to be alluding some, is that we had two parts of this fiasco that were a result of politics that resulted in a good project not happening
One was a government desperate for votes not following a process that is well known and well embedded in Victoria and another party, equally desperate for votes, saying they will cancel it for the wrong reasons and costing us a lot of money.
That is why I said it was like an episode of utopia.
If the LNP has followed the process, let it run its natural course and go through the steps that Multi billion $ infrastructure projects go through then probably it would have been built because the ALP wouldn’t have played their silly political games either at election time.
We, the public, were the losers in a stupid game of politics perpetrated by two parties both culpable in what happened

By electing the Andrews Labour party in 2014 on the promise of tearing up the tunnel contract, and then re-electing his government in a landslide in 2018 a case could be made that the electorate are more than happy with what he has done, and with the job his government is doing.

Whatever you think of his decisions, it's hard to argue Andrews is not the best political leader in the country at present.

LNP changing the National Relay Service - this allows the Deaf, hard of hearing, and folk with speech impairment to make and receive telephone calls. Reverting from CapTel technology (a major breakthrough) to TTY which is 35 year old technology. Why? because it's cheaper.
no heart this government, and no idea how this sets back a lot of people; when CapTel opened up their worlds ..

heard this story and didn't get it and don't understand it.

Not a loaded, but a genuine question ARtball,

why wouldn't deaf people use a mobile phone to text? isn't that sort of what CapTel is?

sort of Ezy. Captel is real time, like a phone conversation. It transcribes what is being said word for word and is displayed on a larger screen than a mobile. It's particularly good for the elderly, who are used to the traditional telephone and not the 'text', but it also manages time and convenience far better for the younger hearing impaired.

Its usually equitable and serviceable things the Libs and Nats dont want to fund.

I think its because they are all *smile*
