The games not even that complex. It's all about being re-elected in 2 years time. Nothing more, nothing less. It's what all our recent governments have

It's that, and its class politics as well, with a slice of corruption for the big end of town. It's win win.

Great rapid fire comments team. Like .the handballs pinging around until we clear the pack and get it long to Tom zThursday night.
My other peeve on govt sponsored construction works is that "this will create 2000 jobs" but they never say these jobs are need to reemploy the same 2000 workers who just lost their jobs when the prior project was completed.
Governments need to set an agenda that encourages investment and innovation that build sustained employment in existing and new sectors of the economy.

The renovations grant is a huge miss I reckon.

We were considering a renovation and when we heard about the grant, thought beauty that might tip us over the line.

No interest in that level of spend however so we won't bother but had it been say they will tip in $10k on a $50,000 job we would have jumped at it.

I would have thought the key aim of stimulus is to get people to spend money they otherwise wouldn't. I can't see how the current scheme would do that in most cases.

It actually looks like a scheme which is meant to look like they are doing something but actually know they won't spend the budget. Bit like the way they have run the NDIS really, just don't spend the money.

yeah. remember the hyper-cynical sound bite of Morrison and that horrendous women michalea cash

saying labour want to take your utes?

the MMM listening,, BigM iced coffee drinking, HiViz crew are an important source of new-Liberals.

partly, I think because the get their news off Facebook?

Many Builders will just add $25K onto their quotes.

They already have their apprentices wages paid until September, now a $25 handout,

when they already had so much work, they were adding $50k onto their quotes anyway.

weird and cynical.

yep, just rebuild the house of cards, and go up another level with more cards.

Jeez that is a fair whack of nonsense. Not all Tradesman are Collingwood supporters.

The proposed policy is nonsense, all it will do is provide supply to the biggest builders. From what I can see it isn't designed for renovations, that is pure spin. It look s like it will be used by people trying to buy houses from the likes of Metricon and Simonds out in their developments. The average builder will see very little government money.

The stereotypes of the building industry are pretty funny really, but I am surprised at some of the posters running with them on the last few pages. For supposedly left wing people it looks like not many of you have spent time with people that work for a living.

Yet another LNP wealth transfer to the middle class and the rich using public money. And Bunnings of course - apparently one the Bunnings bigwigs was on the committee that recommended this.

We've learnt nothing from the Howard era of middle class welfare porkbarrelling.

Costello and Abbotts eternal legacy will be that they put the middle class on welfare.

Not really politics but the queens birthday honours hit the spot again.
Tony Abbott, ex PM so probably understandable but receives it in part for services to indigenous affairs ...laughable
Bronwyn bishop, probably for services to the helicopter industry ?
The bloke who runs Hello World and did the dodgy deal with with his mate Matthias Corman for a travel contract.
Mike Baird, who was chair of NAB during the royal commission
The Labor people? Graham “Dodgy” Richardson, enough said
These awards are a joke really.

No issues with ex-PMs, and in Abbott's case no matter how bad, backwards and destructive they are, getting an AO for services to the country. But really, highlighting his indigenous work is just taking the *smile*. Surprise his role as minister for women's affairs didn't get a mention as well.

Yeh, no measurable change in aboriginal outcomes due to his prime ministership - why an award? Some comments on his award below.

The challenge for government is not to do what’s easy but to do what’s hard,” he says.

“It’s not to do what people want, necessarily, but to do what people need.”

A rabid catholic in charge with that attitude - what could go wrong?

Costello's eternal legacy will always be his lack of spending on infrastructure..............set the country back years and years.

AO for an ex-PM is fine, for services to the country. No need to highlight anything in particular. If they needed to highlight his legacy then his work to award Prince Philip a Knight of the Order of Australia is probably what he'll be most remembered for. Or services to the Speedo and Onion industries.

I reckon a huge pension, a driver, a car, unlimited state air travel for ever is recognition for their narcissistic pursuit of power, civil service charade.

Surely a PM should have to last at least 2 year's in the job....

That, and being the target of one of Keating's greatest disses: "He's all tip and no iceberg."
