Talking Politics

The post was only in reference to how difficult it is to manage and deal with real life situations beyond any actual laws that may be in place or being considered - in this case one particular school's difficulties. Its probably difficult for the family too, but I wasn't referencing them. Just the school.

And its not hard to understand for the school why that's the case. You don't need further detail - correspondence, talking to other parties etc. Its patently obvious why.

Politics and and legislation - they affect the end user.
I dont doubt this issue creates difficulties for teachers, schools and others. my initial response to Harry, then response to you, was about trying assess this situation and respond. I'm saying one cant do that with ALL the facts.

Yes the House can be robust, but how is this performance allowed to happen, and continue to happen. We really have lost the independent Fourth Estate who can hold government to account over crap like this.

Its typical Morrison- yell, perform and ignore the question.
and much of the media will focus on his answer- highlighting the "corruption" of Labor rather than his weak attempt to create a farce of a corruption "watchdog" and ultimately his failing to implement an election promise.

Wow, frothing at the mouth there ScoMo, just lashing out in any direction to distract from the obvious problems the current government have with their pork-barreling corruption.

The religious discrimination bill has now been shelved:

Seems they were out-maneuvered on this one in the end. Proposing a law to speicifically allow discrimination really should be unacceptable but perfectly ok according to the LNP.

It was very enjoyable viewing, the 5 members crossing the floor and voting against the bill has really unravelled him.

i'd say its dead.

Speaks volumes on Morrisons competence and priorities. Went all out to get his Christian 'right to descriminate if god says so' Bill up, and failed, and has dragged the chain on a politician corruption 'we can't be going too hard or we might scare off politicians who are only a bit corrupt' watchdog.

Makes me proud to be an Aussie.

You realise Tame is on the autism spectrum right? Odd quirks in social settings is quite common for people on the spectrum.
I was going to post about this and wasn’t sure whether to point it out or not. You were right to do it, she is high functioning Asbergers.
The context of her talking about the phone call she got was that her abuser said a similar thing to her. “ Don’t report me I will lose my job, you don’t want to be responsible for that do you?”
She is an amazing young woman. Not perfect but bloody courageous.

I played cricket with her father (Michael) for a few years. That is a very tough family.

Not surprised she has the level of courage and fortitude that she does. Good on her.

Now Cabinet is leaking like a burst water main. Cabinet turns on Morrison. Murdoch's attack dogs have come out today blasting Morrison and his ineptitude. He got outmaneuvered, very publicly, over the bill dearest to his chest cavity, and his own party members helped make that happen. His own party are sending tweets around about how nasty a person he is. Two young ladies stand up and give him a very public slap. His closest allies are moving away hoping not to get caught in the firing squad that's lining up.

But he'll still get 4.5 out of every 10 people voting for him. How good is that?!?!?!

*smile* me! What a disgrace. I don’t think Tony Smith would have allowed such an appalling display, or acted with such brazen disrespect.
Im used to seeing some pathetic efforts, from both sides of politics, during question time, but I’ve rarely seen a display that says so clearly “*smile* you, we don’t give a *smile* about you, or anyone else in this joint, or anyone watching. Or democracy in general, really. Just *smile* you! Everyone!”

The single biggest problem with the proposed bill is that it gives Religious belief more weight over all the other types of discrimination. Claiming religion would allow you to discriminate against whoever you want. Not only is it dangerous in it's reach, but it's giving more power to people and bodies who believe in a fictitious make believe spirits and quote from a 2000 year old piece of fiction.
Gunna be kinda difficult cancelling all of those people who believe in those fictitious make believe spirits though. No more Christians, no more Muslims, no more ???? Hindus, Rastas, Buddhists, Scientoligists.

Morrison petulance today in parliament shows how much the Liberals withdrawing the bill has hurt him. The religious discrimination bill was Morrison's baby, he introduced the legislation to the house. Morrison was too smart by half, he had 3 years to present the legislation.

A lot of his churchy mates will be sad & disappointed.

Brittany Higgins has a future in politics. She won't have anything to do with the current iteration of the Liberal Party that treated her so disgracefully, but I doubt she'd be able to bring herself to join Labor. She should join The New Liberals. She's bright, articulate, considered yet passionate. Could be a star.

Grace Tame could do it too but her more blunt style is probably better suited to running as an Independent or for the Reason Party.

Both incredibly impressive young women.

Didn't think I'd read this in the AFR.

"The dolt from Kooyong"
"Indeed, only a Treasurer who had pissed away $20 billion of public money in unintended fiscal stimulus via JobKeeper could waste this much time and energy on something as small as kneecapping four little proxy houses that irritate his mates."

"Frydenberg’s humiliation is total. His complete lack of political judgment has been exposed for all to see. He would be profoundly embarrassed, were he capable of embarrassment.?

I have a question for those that may have a deeper understanding of the subject than me.

Why is Grace Tame so angry, and in particular, why does she appear to hate Scott Morrison's guts? Sorry I guess that's two questions

I know very little about Ms. Tame. I understand she was sexually abused as a teenager, by a teacher. And I understand she was pressured (by the offender presumably) to keep quiet or he will lose his job. I hope the scumbag got everything coming to him, both in court and in gaol.

I believe Grace became an advocate for sexually abused persons (not sure if it is just women), and was ultimately recognised as Australian of the Year.

I genuinely have no idea. I heard her say that leading up to her speech (or was it the recent Australia Day?) that she got a call from someone on the conservative side that was concerned about what she might have to say (about Morrison?). Did this "trigger" her in relation to her original assault and pressuring? Seems to be more than that.

So what has happened for her to hate Morrison's guts?

Note - I have not considered Brittney Higgins' experience. Again I don't know a great deal about it but to me it looks like the first instinct of Government to circle the wagons and limit the damage kicked in, whereas they should have gone straight into full blown protection and support of the victim.

Thoughts?
