Talking Politics

I have a question for those that may have a deeper understanding of the subject than me.

1. Why is Grace Tame so angry, and in particular, 2. why does she appear to hate Scott Morrison's guts? Sorry I guess that's two questions

1. because she was systematically raped by a teacher when she was a child

2. because Scott Morrison is a *smile*, who allegedly enables raping and demeaning of children and adults alike (read Christian Porter, Brittany Higgins, Andrew lamming, Julia banks, etc, etc)

would you like to know why they call a meat pie a meat pie also? I also have a deep understanding of carnivourous pastries.

meanwhile,

Mr. DimSim head keeps leaking against Morrison and commences playing the Trump hand

'Albonese was raised by pandas in a bamboo forest'

*smile* me this is gonna get Ugly.

Mr, DSH is gonna lead LNP to the election, and there is nothing he won't say or do for power. Nothing.

He is our very own Vladimir Putin.

He'd have his people sourcing Novichok right now, just in case anyone thinks about crossing the floor or leaking on him.

I know very little about Ms. Tame. I understand she was sexually abused as a teenager, by a teacher. And I understand she was pressured (by the offender presumably) to keep quiet or he will lose his job. I hope the scumbag got everything coming to him, both in court and in gaol.

I believe Grace became an advocate for sexually abused persons (not sure if it is just women), and was ultimately recognised as Australian of the Year.

I genuinely have no idea. I heard her say that leading up to her speech (or was it the recent Australia Day?) that she got a call from someone on the conservative side that was concerned about what she might have to say (about Morrison?). Did this "trigger" her in relation to her original assault and pressuring? Seems to be more than that.

So what has happened for her to hate Morrison's guts?

Note - I have not considered Brittney Higgins' experience. Again I don't know a great deal about it but to me it looks like the first instinct of Government to circle the wagons and limit the damage kicked in, whereas they should have gone straight into full blown protection and support of the victim.

Thoughts?
Why is Grace Tame so angry? You answered it in the next paragraph. She was abused, then pressured to keep it a secret. That results in a lot of internalised guilt and shame. A lot of lost time. Theft of self-esteem, confidence and security. When you wake up to the fact it's not your fault and those things were brutally, uncaringly ripped from you, the natural response is anger. And when you see perpetrators protected, the anger amplifies.

As to why she hates Morrison? Well, for starters, he's a loathsome person. Very easy to hate. Second, he has shown he doesn't give a *smile* about women. He doesn't care about what happened to her, or trying to prevent it happening to anyone else.

I find it harder to understand why anyone wouldn't hate Morrison's guts. Not just our worst-ever PM, but the worst person to ever be PM.

"It is good and right, Mr Speaker, that so many are able to gather here in this way, whether in our capital or elsewhere, and to do so peacefully to express their concerns and their very genuine and real frustrations.

Not far from here, such marches, even now, are being met with bullets. But not here in this country."

However, when Mr.DimSim Head rolls him in the next fortnight,

he'll even have *smile* that up.
My exact thoughts immediately after I hit 'post reply'.

Even leaving aside her personal story, Grace Tame is 26. Anyone under 30 will almost certainly suffer significantly from the climate change chickens coming home to roost in their lifetime. How could they not hate a man who brandishes coal like a trophy. It's taunting them: "Yeah, your future's f*cked, and I just f*cked it a little harder, but I got richer now, so f*ck you and your future."

Grace Tame, and a lot of women besides, are very angry with the current government because they do not treat this issue seriously enough. I will add here that they are very angry with previous governments and pretty much the whole male-dominated structure of power in this and other countries.

Why this is the case, is because it is treated as a series of isolated incidents where we single out the perpetrator and take it no further. The problem is that these are not isolated cases. The problem is that these are systemic issues. The system favours men and the system also favours covering up incidents rather than addressing the problem (it has got better, but we are nowhere near resolution). I am male, I do not walk down the street wondering if I will be attacked and violated, women do. I do not go to work worried that I will be sexually propositioned or harassed, women do.

The data on this is appalling:
1 in 6, or 1.6 million women have experience physical or sexual violence by a partner since the age of 15.
1 in 4, or 2.2 million women, have experience emotional abuse by a partner since the age of 15.
1 in 5, or 1.7 women, have experienced sexual violence since the age of 15.
Almost 10 women a day are hospitalised for assault injuries perpetrated by a spouse or partner.
On average, one woman a week is murdered by their current or former partner

The current LNP government is seen as particularly resistant to recognising that these issues go well beyond specific incidents and are systemic. We see a cabinet dominated by men (2 women in cabinet now I think, they started with 1 or none from memory). This government responded to the Brittany Higgins rape with attempts to keep it quiet and when it got out they tried to discredit her partner. The whole issue with Christian Porter was again an attempt to just make the allegations go away.

I don't reckon the likes of Grace Tame and Brittany Higgins are particularly enamoured with Labor either, but the very socially conservative leadership of this government is clearly not interested in trying to address these issues, hence the particular dislike of the current government.

After the teacher who groomed and raped her was jailed, Grace wanted to tell her story but she wasn't allowed to.
Tasmania had sexual assault gag laws. The law prevented victims of sexual assault from being named.

Grace, had to fight like hell to have the law changed on the premise that she was a victim, and she wanted to tell her story, hoping it might prevent the same thing happening to someone else.

The bit that really hurts over what happened to Grace Tame, well, it all hurts but one area that was unbelievable, is that the laws in Tasmanian meant she was not allowed to mention the name of her abuser. legally she couldn't comment on the case. But he was allowed too, and he did, even after coming out of jail. He was bragging how he was 55, she was 15, and it was great. And *smile* Bettina Arndt was defending him.

There's plenty of reasons for Grace to be angry at the establishment and I for one cheer her on every time she refuses to be silenced.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the responses. I had no idea of the background regarding Tasmanian laws. That explains a lot. Certainly the "system" needs a real overhaul. It might be happening but it is slow moving.

Easy's response gave me a laugh :) Mate, don't hold back! :)

And for clarity, I'm no fan of our Government. In fact I'd say I'm so fed up with the standard of politics in this country that I've switched off. Not sure where we are going to end up as a country/community.

Koalas are now officially endangered. KOALAS, for *smile*'s sake. They literally grow on trees.

Imagine the pitch meeting for our tourism campaign in a few years. "Come and snorkel The Great Barrier- oh, wait, that's gone. Er, cuddle a koal- na, hang on, we killed them. Enjoy our stunning natural beaut- nup, we f*cked that. What about our indigenous culture and herit- ah, I crack myself up. Hmmm, let's see...Oh, what about our world-class music and arts sce- no, we failed to support that. Ummm. How good's crick- no, it's too hot to play now. Aaaaahhh... oh - FOR SALE- nup we sold it out from under ourselves already. Wait, I have it: 'Australia: enjoy the dregs.' Catchy, right?"

you'de certainly make sure you got a receipt if you lent her $5 to buy a coffee.

Gladys holds 3 titles within the LNP reckon

1. the nicest crookedest member, and
2. the poorest recollector and
3. the worst judge of man flesh

Hows when she responded to the 96% of the grubby (gambling) $200+m community money she arbitrarily gave to LNP seats, in one of the great modern inverse robin hood routines of our time.

'for better or worse, thats how it works' (thats a quote)

um, its worse Gladys. worse.

How dare you. The Coalition have been fantastic on the environment. They have allocated some money to saving it, as long as it doesn't go to anyone with any scienceyness who may have been critical of them, which leaves the farmers and big corporations. They'll do a great job, as they always have. Fantastic, tremendous, how good are farmers and big corporations?

A question eZyT, Gladys's new squeeze is a lawyer, is that an upgrade on her politician lover?

Imagine spending four years cosplaying as a daggy suburban dad, hiding your Bronte/rugby union roots under a Cronulla Sharkies cap, and not learning more than one line of April Sun in Cuba before 'performing' it on your free feature-length prime time TV ad.

Imagine being so stupid/arrogant/complacent that in a staged media fluff piece on the channel run by your former parliamentary colleague, you pull out the ukulele you almost certainly scored on your trip to Hawaii while the country was on fire and don't credit the public with the intelligence to put 2 and 2 together and get, "you're a *smile*".

A question eZyT, Gladys's new squeeze is a lawyer, is that an upgrade on her politician lover?

the only real difference,

is Politicians misappropriate public money,

and Lawyers misappropriate private money (except, of course when a silk lands the ultimate snout gig - a royal commission).

on that basis, upgrade.

But the lawyer bloke is on a hiding to nothing;

he could take Gladys for a lobster dinner and viv cliquot,

and tend her orchid with his mouth for 2 hours afterwards,

and she'd have no recollection.
