Talking Politics

Probably the best achievement was relegating Shorten to a never was.
Why can't Labor just play a smart game for once?
Even with this unrelenting 10%, labor still don't have it in the bag by a mile because they are still the same old. Their affiliations with unions and the greens hurt them more than the contributors to this thread are willing to accept.
They didn't make wholesale changes to the shadow ministers when they had the chance, Albo and co are all old Labor.
The ALP should win from here but with some brave moves they would romp it in McGovern like.
Spook beat me to it, Labor hate the greens more than they hate the coalition.

It has never been about a 90%. Unless you are M McGowan.
It's all about the swing vote isn't it? Historically Labor are just dumb at the game.
10% either way, should be enough because most of us don't actually fall for either party being better than one or the other. And most of us are actually not represented by this threads pro Labor view.
For those who think it's the media's fault and the LNP spreading lies as to why Morrison is the PM, take a look at the opposition without the rose coloured glasses.
Shorten led largely the same team to the last election. My gut tells me it ain't the Government it's the opposition! I have said it since Albo took the reigns. Labor got it wrong in a big way, but they will get a chance by default on the 2 party preferred.
you referenced the 10% beating down the other 90%.

The last time Labor were in government they actually achieved some good- they were voted out because of the leadership fiasco, and their poor handling of the carbon price/ets,.

this liberal/national government will be voted out because it has achieved nothing, messed up a lot and is led by Scott Morrison and Barnaby Joyce.

there is no good reason for any "swinging" voter to vote LNP at this election. NONE.

Labor is not aligned with the Greens. They don't like the Greens. The Greens voted with the Libs to defeat Labor's ETS, and they try to win Labor seats much more than they do Liberal seats. The Greens are a protest vote for petulant uni students and soccer mums who don't know how things work. They set purity tests for everyone else because they'll never have to carry the burden of actually being responsible.

Old Labor. *smile* me, we could do with a serving of that.
"Smile" me, why didn't Labor change their ways? They would grab the middle and win comfortably.
I like your passion regarding the greens, however they hold the whip for Labor that's why Labor get in the bed with them.
Next you'll be telling me that 50% of Aussies are to stupid to think forthemselves so they just follow Murdoch's lead.
Labor have been their own worst enemy, now they have another chance let's see how they go.

Let's see where the preferences go then shall we. Not that this election should require preferences if Labor play the game properly.

No, Murdoch, Palmer and 9 are Labor's worst enemies.

NSW rail workers turn up to work, Perrottet government shuts down the system and lies that they're on strike. Lie repeated by Scummo and the compliant media.

Albo, kenneely Wong and co! It's the same mess. Just no shorten
You would rather vote for Morrison, Joyce, Dutton, Robert, Tudge, Taylor, Frydenburg, Cash, Hunt, Colbeck?

one small mercy is that after this election Laming, Christensen and Kelly will no longer be part of the Lib/Nats- though how long were allowed to be members?

Has Kevin Andrews been given the boot yet?

That is just off the top of my head, and the ones that are clear cut failures.

Any other reasons to vote for this disaster of a government?

Morrison has already picked the fight with China, next it will be unions. renewables will be following.
Anything to get focus away from the absolute *smile* job he and the current government are doing.

An interesting interview by Peter FitzSimons with Ray Martin.

Fitz: Looking back on your own career, it occurs to me that as a journalist, you were a lot like the ABC’s Andrew Olle: no one would have had the first clue which way you voted. I don’t ask which way you vote now. But may I ask? Do you have strong political passions one way or another?

RM: Very strong. But back then nothing pleased me more than doing an interview with John Howard, Bob Hawke or Paul Keating, and have 50 per cent of the people say “It’s clear from that interview, you’re a card-carrying Commie, and the other half, you’re a blue ribbon Liberal.” But I do have strong political views.

Fitz: Go on?

RM: Gough’s “It’s Time” campaign was 50 years ago to the year. I think it’s time [again]. I have interviewed every Prime Minister since Bob Menzies and I think this is the most incompetent government we’ve had. It’s time.

Hmm wonder whether they are going for Chinese made, surely not !!!!

Australian manufacturers shunned as government shops for cheap masks.

"The Morrison government has overlooked Australian manufacturers to favour cheap overseas suppliers as it shops for millions of face masks, gowns, gloves and other personal protective equipment."

Australia Institute economist Jim Stanford said the failure to prioritise local manufacturers showed the government had not learned the lessons of 2020, when “we were caught flat-footed as the pandemic hit”.

“Without a deliberate effort to support Australian manufacturing, it’s almost certain that this production will go overseas to the lowest-cost producer,” Dr Stanford said.

"Prime Minister Scott Morrison used a speech at the National Press Club in October to declare “we make things in Australia” and launch a national manufacturing strategy."

Bound to be Chinese made . . . looking more like the Manchurian Candidate by the day (and, no, I don't mean they have any resemblance to Frank Sinatra!).

How did he pick a fight with China?
