Celebrate the unions all you want. They too needed to move with the times, like their Labor offspring they needed to move beyond the 1980s to remain relevant.
The popularity of unions is the true measure.
My take is that should you and the rest of your members stop paying the union might just get out of bed with your boss and represent its members not iitself. At least make em work for your money.
Union bashing is upsetting hey? That's terrible for you.Albo is copping a lot of heat by not commenting on this whole incident, but I reckon its more about having respect for the dead than anything else. It would appear the recently departed had some personal skeletons.
Morrison on the other hand.... the man who won’t investigate a sexual assault allegation and the million dollar donation that accompanied it, claims Labor needs to investigate. Then had to gall to say Albo goes into hiding when the heat is on.
I think the SA election result tells us Australia is sick of his gaslighting.
This whole “mean girls” saga is the beginning of the nastiest election campaign we are ever gonna see. An Albo win probably means a Royal Commission into media diversity. The blowtorch on Albo has started and won’t end until the day after the election. Strap yourself in.
union bashing really sh!ts me. People are quick to forget the progress they have made for workers. We only had a public holiday last week to celebrate it FFS. People also forget that the union movement founded the Labor party, so I don’t understand why people have a problem with them being linked.
As for saying unions have “had their time,” who is going to negotiate the EBA at your work? Who is going to protest anti-worker legislation such as workchoices? Who’s gonna fight for to end insecure work and low wage growth? Who’s working hard to protect workers from COVID?
Unions are far from irrelevant. They are as important as ever. In fact, union membership has had a bit of a surge in recent times. No doubt COVID has had an effect. Also Sally McManus who is nothing short of brilliant.
Yes, they are not perfect. Some have agendas. Some have personal ambition. The national branch of my union has been in bed with management for years… But alternately, my state branch have helped me significantly over the years. I will never, ever leave my union.
And people should also not ignore the significance of Tony Abbott’s witch-hunt royal commission that found zero corruption. zero.
