PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

I propose that Tambling be given a run with role this week on Aaron Davey.

My reasons are fairly simple - if you want to see how a forward pocket with pace to burn should actually play then all you have to do is watch Aaron Davey each week. His second and third efforts are exceptional and his chase downs and opportunism are superb. Also given Davey is aboriginal and brings to AFL a similar build and talents, Tambling should find the the comparison really worthwhile.

I have been very critical this year of how soft Tambling has been defensively and how contented he has been on occasions after being beaten to run behind his opponent despite having "electrifying" pace. On Saturday Tambling did actually chase an opponent down and I cheered. I think one week playing on Davey will show Tambling how much you need to work as a forward, how defensive you can be as a forward and what sort of strength levels you need. Given Tambling's recent improvement a week on Davey might show him where the bar really is and give him a taste of how far he really has to go to be a top tier player.

And besides, we don't have too many in the side besides Lids and Bling who can actually keep up with Davey. ;D
I am sure Newman would have been given the job otherwise :'(
