With keeping 1 eye on the future, in the below video we take a look at 2026 NGA Academy prospect, Tanner Armstrong!

Tanner plays for the Murray Bushrangers and was able to secure a few Under 18 games this year as a Under 16 which is a great effort.

He had a really good Under 16 National Carnival earning himself the Vic Country coaches MVP plus All Australian honors.

Played as a small defender in the National Carnival but has played across all 3 lines.

One to keep an eye on over the next couple of years!

I haven’t heard much on Tanner Armstrong recently and see he isn’t in the Vic Country squad for the first game. Does anyone know if he is injured or just not selected ?

Definitely not injured. Playing in the APS for Scotch and doing very well!

Am I right in thinking that if Roberts nominates for the ND and isn't bid on, we can automatically list him as a Cat B rookie? Not sure if its just the ND or if he has to pass through the RD too, but if its just the ND it would seem smart to add him straight to our Cat B list.

I don't know 100% but from what I have heard from others, what you outlined is right.

there is a certain point in the draft, might be pick 65 onwards for example, whereby we would only need a list spot I think? otherwise Cat B like you said.

I have been a bit late to the Oscar Roberts party but I really like the energy and attack he brings!

Don't think it's the Cat B list - it's the main rookie list. Cat B is for players without footy background.

That’s a funny old ball drop by Roberts.

I think the rules are slightly different between F/S and NGA's. Father sons if they get through the ND can automatically be added to the Cat A rookie list, if its NGA pretty sure its the Cat B. There are examples of this, Jayden Nguyen at the Bombers, Josh Draper at Fremantle were both NGA academy players and are on their Cat B list.

Again another AFL rule that makes no *smile* sense

There was a kid last year who we didn't add- Zadyn Lockwood- he is playing u18s again- i wonder if we can still add him if we wanted to.

Another potential NGA to possibly follow is Beau Griffiths (Picola) mid-fwd who just kicked 120 in the under 14s. Just a lazy 31 goals in the last two home and away games for the year.

Tanner Armstrong vs Dandenong Stingrays today.
32D (22CP) 14CL and 4 tackles
Great effort by an under age kid in a poor side. I look forward to seeing him in the futures game on Grand Final day.

I look forward to the AFL changing the rules just in time for us to not be able to get him via nga (e.g. first round exclusion, or a specific "no Richmond" subclause)

More than likely won’t have to worry about any exclusion.
