PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

After seeing a couple of the 05 games on the box latley,an the amount of changes to the starting 22 in that time i.e Campbell,Graham,Chaf, staf,Kellaway I wondered how much the team will probally change again during next season ,especially with so many kids on the list now an at least another 7 coming on it as well.

So with what I think they may do an a bit of MHO I thought I would get rid of a bit of off season boredom an have a crack at the 22

Back line:Back pocket:Raines how can you go past our number 1 small defender an like others I think he will play a small role through the middle next year but lets not fix what isnt broke just yet.White/Hartigan are two guys who may step up to play a similar role an allow Rainsey to push up the ground more.

Full Back: Gas Im sure will have first crack at it one mainly cause I think he still deserves it at this stage an 2 not many other full back options in the team,Razor im sure will have his roles on the full back line as well during 07.

Tall back Pocket:Thursfield when fully recovered is a monty to take a tall role down back, his closing speed hopefully will return an eventually I hope will move up to a Key back, but at this stage with his frame I think he will play on the 3rd best talls.Bowden boys will play similar roles no doubt but in more attacking ways,Mcguane is another who may step up an fill this kind of role.

Half Back HBF:I wouldnt mind seeing Lids play a lot of footy of the half back line combined with runs through the midfiled,HBF has be come such a big part of modern footy an with lids's speed an skills he may well set up a lot of goals from there as well as repell plenty with his exceptional marking.Casserly,Jon even Meyer may well improve to take on half back roles ,all have excellent speed an love to carry the ball.

CHB:This position is huge to us ::) an im going to put my faith in our new boy Polak,I see him not been your ultra attacking player but not super defensive either, what I like about him from what i have seen is he will take the big strong pack mark an relieve the pressure of the other backmen an just be able to slow the game down an get the ballback in our hands when under pressure,Sarge an Razor im sure will have runs through here as well, others disagree with Sarge been able to play down back but I see him been a real weapon with his field kicking if he can play the odd role down there an he has a bit more speed then Polly so we may find he matches up some opponents better.

HBF:Bowdo I dont think Joel will play a vastly different role next season but I persoanlly would like to see him be able to play a little more often forward of the ball so he is passing inside 50 an kicking around 15 goals for the year,if a couple of the kids could play a half back role i wouldnt mind seeing Joel play accross half forward a bit too.

Centre line:Wing:There will be no doubt a few players get oppurtunitys on the wing this year but I think 1 player who will spend a lot of time there is Polo I can see him continuing to play his run with role with great effect as well as becoming a 20 pocession player as well,he is also the type of wingman who will push back an help the back line with his great marking an courage, for me this bloke is a footballers footballer an I can see him been a AA wingman come 08 an onwards.

Wing2:Levels of fitness will have a big say on how much impact he has but Tambling at some stage will demand the wing an win games of his own boot I see him playing an opposite role to Polo as in he will be sayin catch me if you can an hopefully will kick around the 20 goal mark.Hyde,Tiva,Howat,Casserly,Jon will im sure have runs through the wings as well.

Centre:Is there such a thing as a centremen nowdays Tucky,Cogs an Sugar I think are still our 3 best midfielders so I will say Sugar will play the same role an get the oppositions best Centremen again I hope in a weeks time we have what some would call a champion Centreman as they certainly make a difference no metter what you call them.

Half Forward Line:HFF:Petts is one of the most improved players in the AFL an plays his role very well,he not just kicks 30 goals a season but leads the AFL in inside 50s an sets up many many goals this possie is his till somebody takes it of him,if he could just add a tad more defensive pressure he would be a star.

CHF:Richo again will play out at half Forward a lot ,but im sure TW will get the Triangle action happening again an that will meen he rotates around the forward line an up the ground.

HFF:This is one spot im not convinced on, like other spots im sure plenty will get an oppurtunity here im going to say Hughes at this stage with his field kicking abilty I can see him working well as a Chf type role an then also been able to play out of the square in the Triangle rotation,Browny will have this spot if TW wants to play him up the ground but I think he wants to play Browny very close to goal,Meyer could well also cement this spot come round 22 if things go right for him an also Krak may be used in this role again.

FF LINE :Forward Pocket:Browny an he will be the best in the AFL ;D brilliant on the lead ,excellent crumber simply just a nightmare for defenders on the goal line, with luck will be a 40 goal + season.

Full Forward:Sarge this is the break out year an he has my full confidence,no longer has the giaraffe Staf getting in his way, will get more game time an with this im sure his confidence will grow. With his set shot goal kicking abilty im sure we will be looking for him a lot more an that should help both him an Richo,Sarge also should work well in the triangle with once again with pace to lead at the ball carrier an pin point field kicking.KK/Pods could make this very intresting if either are recruited

FP2 Krak as the pure crumber an deffensive pressure FP is still our best option,Hartigan is a smokey for this role an im sure Bling will spend time in the pocket too.Pato,Razor,Paddy B,Mcguane may get role s as tall forwards when we try an stretch back lines as well.

Rucks: Well Simo very simply picks himself, definatley in the top 5 rucks in the AFL the big key for us is our 2nd ruck if Pato can do a role an become solid at the hitouts an then get 12-15 touches around the ground this will help make Simo a much more potent force when going forward as also giving him more rest time ,not just helping him in each game but for the entire season.Knobel I hope can get back to full fitness an give the boys a chop out when needed.

MIds: Tucky/Foley no doubt will spend more time then anybody else in the engine room next year.I really believe Foley will take a big step next year an will becme one of the AFLs elite clearnace players ,he may be little but his reaction time is elite, he simply wont be beaten to the ball when its on the ground an with further game time an strength he is only going to get better.
Massive key for us is the other guys who rotate through here if we have to rely on our best 4 it will make it real hard but if Lids,Rainsey,Browny,Polo,Meyer,Krak,Jon,Hyde,Tiva,White,Howat plus a couple of new kids can play roles it will go along way to building a good Midfield.

Bench well it could be a number of players for a variety of roles, but I have gone with Paddy B simply deserves to be in the starting line up an can play a heap of roles,Cogs simply due to injury I have him on the bench when fully fit I still think is as best Midfielder,Pato has to be our 2nd ruckmen an must kick 15 odd goals for us to really improve an also will really help the back line with his courage to back into packs an fill the hole,Newman once again injury hasnt helped but I just feel there are palyers coming for his spot especislly since he hasnt shown he can have arun in the middle.

Taggers we do need to find another couple I feel who can play shut down roles,Intrestingly there has been many poor players who have become excellent taggers an actually even come out the otherside good players but the one main attribute is mental toughness.
White may just be able to end up filling this role ,has great endurance an speed which is a rare combination but he is small which worries me a tad when taller class players push forward, but seems to have ticked plenty of the boxes.
Harts I also think ticks a lot of the boxes but I simply am unsure on his endurnace an do's seem to like to play of his man a lot when playing down back but he is a very smart footballer for mine an do's need to create something as a couple have gone past him in his role I feel.
Jacko is a real smokey for me ,great endurence an speed plus very powerful an very very disciplined, problem is he is not a natural footballer but who knows he has alot of good qualitys that could see him been outstanding in this role.

If your still reading this I hope I havent put anyone to sleep its just what November can do to you :hihi :sleeping plus i'd be intrested to here others thoughts on will change in the next 12 months.
