Team changes - round 3 v Western Bulldogs

Was a little surprised Orren was elevated purely because there was so much talk about Thomas & Miles, but the back-up plan gets a go this week.

Would have preferred Miles elevated and use Vickery and Griffiths in the ruck (although we probably didn't really perceive how well Griffiths would do in the ruck early on). Yeah not perfect scenario but Orren will get killed in the ruck by Minson anyway. Not too many 32yo ruckmen in the competition taking on first duty ruck in the competition without any help.

Unrealistic to rely on Griff/Vickerdud rucking for probably several weeks, so reluctantly we had to pull the big O emergency lever.
Orren has a big strong body and can get elevation, so some chance to get a palm out to mids at centre bounce. Is a worry after that.
Griff is gradually progressing into a handy ruck back-up but his higher value is around the ground.
Vickery is currently offering neither and as such will remain deep in the forward line.
Hopefully a mix of the three adds up to something. But only two wouldn't amount to much imo.

Absolutly agree and the use of three talls in the forwardline will cause many problems for the Doggies umpa lumpa defense.

i would rather see O get killed by Minson than either Griff or TV.

While i doubt we would do it, we could consider going in with Griff as the ruck the following week against Grundy. but i dont think it would be a great idea to make Griff play as a No.1 ruck so early in his rucking career.

Hope u r correct in this. However we thought the same about Gold Coast and their undersized defence...

yep griffo and tv would be far more adequate than the big ORRI....
minson will have the day off Orri is slow and below average
hope he proves me wrong though

Griff should be backup to Vickery. I think it's a bit of a blight that Vickery still can't carry the burden of ruck duties when required. With Big O int he side we'll be basically playing 1 player short. Probably get away with it against Bulldogs but not against good sides.

Have a feeling Newman will be the sub this weekend and that Gordon will get a full game.

was my post deleted for having a crack at newman? or was it because i said the word 'shag?' :rofl

seriously Ian? I was there last week and thought he was very important reading the play and cutting off some blues leads. I do think this is about his last year but his experience last week was invaluable. Reckon you're a bit harsh.

lol, did you see that out of bounds on the full in the 3rd quarter? how embarrasing was that? could not hit a target from 10 metres. the word 'diabolical' isn't harsh enough

From memory our Captain kicked out of bounds on the full in round 1...

I tend to agree with this. I have never really been in favour of vickery as a permanent key forward because I have always felt he has the makings of a first ruck .
Ideally I would have vickery and griffiths in the ruck and brought in elton or mcbean but vickery is not even seen as a ruckman anymore.
I am a supporter of TV but I have always believed that he should be a ruckman.

I reckon Minson would laugh his head off at the thought of Vickery as first ruck. At least the Big O is a genuine ruck who will compete hard. Will keep Minson honest.

If it's not working sub the Big O off and leave the last 45mins to Vickery/Griffiths and bring on a runner.

But Orren needs to play a high TOG% and just compete like a maniac until he's completely stuffed.

The back-up plan should have been Orren elevated as a LTIL replacement for Ivan, with Miles elevated as a midfielder.
Miles could have taken the sub spot instead of Foley for the last two games.

...

Was Ivan going to miss 8 weeks to qualify for the ltil though? I imagine they want him back in the team as soon as possible.

Looking at our emergencies I wouldn't mind betting that we may have a late change with a small for a tall.

I'm with you on this, Hopper.
While the Big O won't be ripping the game wide open, I do feel he's a good chance to be a useful contributor against the Doggies.

Big O did well last year when he came in - surprised me with his work around the game also, not quick but nor in Minson.

If Koby Stevens out then that will really hurt the dogs -.
