Newman could play and one Leg and he still wouldn't have 6 kicked against him, :rofl

You may like to have a chat to Phil Matera about that Gus. How quickly some forget. ;)

Would you care to name a key defender who hasn't had 6 kicked on them?

Newman has struggled defensively on numerous occasions when played on an opponent of the calibre Hall often gets, particularly when that opponent is getting the sort of regular delivery a key defender has to cope with week in week out. Doesn't mean he's not a good defender, just that he's had his own inglorious moments when he's been the one having to cover a top class opponent being fed the ball a lot.

Anyway, I was just making a point about the radically different standards players are held to, based largely on myth, group think opinion and how stylish they look on a football field rather than facts. :)

I dont care which kid came in to the team as long as its a kid and not THE CHAFF 8)

Rayzor, you need to look at the net result of a game. Hall's goof-ups usually end up resulting in goals, so what he saves against his own opponent, he ends up serving on a silver platter to one of his team-mates' opponents.

Hit the nail on the head Zips

Does Hall have a footy brain? No
Will he make mistakes? Yes
Do other players make stupid mistakes? Yes
Does Hall bust his guts every week? Yes
Do we have anyone else to match up against monster forwards? No
Would Ray's results be better if our midfield had done their job better over the years? Yes.

Ray may not be the superstar many wish we had but he's the best we have for that role and has had some good victories over better-credentialled forwards like Pavlova last year. This year he's battled injury too.

Is Ray to blame for the unrealistic expectations of many supporters?

No doubting that TBH. But to say Hall is up there (or better than) with the Newmans & Kellaways of the side is a bit rich. He tries hard, is reasonably effective, but he has more brain fades than the others on the list which end up in opposition goals. He just needs to keep it simple!! No flashy crap, no trying to get around players, just stick to the basics. 8)

Comparing Newan and Hall's stats is pointless. They are two completely different types of players, different size, different positions. Easier to replace a player of Newman's position than Hall's which is why Hall has been lucky enough to get games at the Tigers. Hall's days are numbered as the younger talls put their hands up (predict he wil be gone by 2008). Tend to feel that Newman will play a very importnat role in the Tigers future (success).

Will he make mistakes? stupid question, everyone makes mistakes.
Do other players make stupid mistakes? of coarse, just not as many and not the same one time and time again.
Does Hall bust his guts every week? Yes, he's an honest toiler.
Do we have anyone else to match up against monster forwards? Not at the time (hawks, norths games)
Would Ray's results be better if our midfield had done their job better over the years? Of coarse, but that applys to every other defender too TBH, not just poor ole gumpus.

His game against the Hawks, after a shocking game against Norths sealed it for me. Franklin and Thompson are both leading players who cant take pack marks to save themselves yet Hall CONTINUALLY played behind or alongside them giving them plenty of room in front escape and lead. GOAL >:(

Im no supercoach but surely at some point during those matches you'd think "hmmm, theyre beating me with their leads. Maybe i should try something different. stand in front, choke the lead, come back with the flight of the ball.........." might of worked, might not of, but one thing is for sure, his plan A definately wasn't !!!
