I see this team as the future of our club and a pretty decent one too.

Our backline has plenty of positives and structure with Thursfield, Polak and McGuane as the three talls, and Raines, Casserley and Oakleigh-Nicholls as the run. This backline has height, pace, skill and class. When was the last time this football club had that!

Our midfield is exciting - a lot depends on Coughlan - he is a worrior and I beleive he will make it back and be that tough hard centreman we require. Nathan Foley and Shane Edwards complete a midfield that can win centre clearances and run all day. If Foley improves his kicking this will be a deadly midfield with Simmonds as the ruckman. The outside on ballers in Newman and Connors have mongrel, desperation, skill, poise and class. They hit targets and can set up play well. Deledio, Tambling, Collins, Polo, Casserley, JON, Meyer and Clingan will all see time in the midfield.

Our Forward line, even without Richo is our weapon. Pattison is maligned on PRE but he is a workhorse at CHF. He presents and presents and presents all day long and if we are to generate run from the backline we need a CHF willing to keep presenting up the lines and then dish off again to another runner - Pattison is suited to this. Closer to home we have our answer to Fevola in Jay Schulz. The guy can lead, take a strong grab and kick accurately - a elite fll forward in the making. Once Richo is gone and we stop being a Richo focused team - Jay will shine, we will have guys that can spot up a lead and this wil suit Schulz. Jack Riewoldt will play the floating forward role, lead up to the wings, around half forward and anywhere inside fifty. Again he has a beautiful set shot kick, agression, mongrel, leadership, class, skill and poise. Too much to handle for any third tall defender. Around them we have the secondary or resting midfielders. Deledio, Tambling and Meyer all add class, pace, skill and excitement.

On the bench we have that Ruckman we have traded for who will be about the 22 - 23 years of age in two years and ready for responsibility, Collins a class pure midfielder, Clingan - as CC says a natural footballer who can play half back, or on ball, adds to the run and of course Dean Polo who could be used as a tagger or a pure inside midfielder releiving Coughlan. The bench also a weapon to provide more run, run, run.

This next trading period and draft period is ultra important to our future success. The 22 I have listed are very good players if devedloped right, but they still need more class players added. For instance if Pattison gets injured we will need a CHF replacement, if Thursfield or Polak get injured we need a couple of KP Defenders able to fill in. We desperately need to trade for a young ruckman and draft another one. I keep saying it, it's all about structure and if we get that right we wil have a good team challenging.

great looking starting side momentai, couldnt have put it better myself (apart from the dowler/wood/muston speculators). I do reckon rainseys gonna feature prominently in the future though. Hyde and Tivendale would make great depth players.

What's the fascianation in getting rid of Newman? The bloke's a gun backman!

I think that comment is not true.

I don't agree we should get rid of him - no way no - he is one player that busts his gut for the team and has a bit of passion and desperation in his play - he also has skill and poise and class - he should be a leader - I wouldn't complain if he was captain.

But;

He plays way too lose as a defender - the time has come to push him up to the midfield, on a wing and let him play his natural game, even if he stays around half back to wing and sets up attacks, he would be perfect to switch play to on a wing and give him time and space and he'll spot up a target.

Getting rid of Newman is ludacris!

Gun backman now, at 24yo, who, as I've been told, has no leadership qualities nor aspirations.
Yes, Newman would like the captaincy but, no, he doesn't want the responsibilities that go with it.

2011 sees him at 28yo, a star at Tigerland but not quite an AFL star, certainly worth some tradeable value at this point in time.

Go for it!

Can't agree with ya there Phantom!I can think of 3 or 4 other blokes i'd be looking to trade off before Newman. As Tigerbob mentioned, maybe Newman should be moved up the ground. His commitment, skill & endeavour are second to none.

I think that what needs to happen at the club is that Wallace needs to get out the big stick. Tell the over 24s that they will be traded/delisted without mercy for whatever they attract on the open market: UNLESS they can convincingly lift club performance to a position where finals seem a possibility in 2008-9.

Some benchmarks he might set are: Wins against top4 sides. Wins interstate. Wins late in the season. 10 total wins. If our seniors can't lift the side to performances like this this year, then they won't be helping the side succeed in future. Personally I don't think they can do it and so I look forward to high draft picks at the end of the year.

Possible trades (2-3): * = most likely trades
*Richardson - I'd like to see the guy play finals if not at Richmond- somewhere else!
Bowden. J - Prefer to keep, but would trade for the right offer.
*Newman - would get good value for a trade.
*Pettifer - some trade value
Krak - some trade value
Tuck - some trade value

Retire:
Gaspar

Keep:
Brown(little trade value), Coughlan (hope for the best - this guy is a leader and should only be traded for Judd), Simmo (next captain), Johnson(depth player), Hyde (depth player), Tiv(depth player), Knobel(we don't have many Rucks), Kingsley(depth player)

Delist:
Hall, P.Bowden (if he doesn't improve)

Total: 6 seniors players off the list at the end of the year

I don't think this an unreasonable thing to do for Wallace at present. If he doesn't do something radical he will lose the support of the Tiger faithful. I don't think the fantasy of a finals send off for senior players is realistic if we don't see a decent performance this year.

For mine PERFORM or get PUNTED!

There is no way we will trade Richo he would retire before playing for any other club!!

What if a team on the way up, like the Doggies, though he might be a good 'top up' tall for a season or two. I reckon he might go. He still has a season or two left, IMO.

If he won't earn us a final berth by being here, and I suspect he won't, what is the point of him being at RFC?

On that basis we may as well trade the whole team (hmmm). No individual earns a team a finals berth.

I think perhaps we shouldn’t overestimate the trade value of our players. Ottens for all his faults had trade value as a young tall who had an all Australian under his belt. Probably no AFL team will give up top 10 pick at the end of the year for any player we are prepared to trade.

Is it worth the trauma of trading Richo for a second round pick? Unless he wants to go I would hope not.

If a club in the finals race was keen on Richo, and Richo agreed to move, then let him go. It'd hurt but he's put his heart and soul into this club for so long now that we can't begrudge him the chance to win a Premiership. But I certainly wouldn't want to see Richmond forcing him out.

Yep that would be fine.

Remember, Richo's dad was traded to South at the end of his career.
There were no feelings hurt.

You must think RFC day & night, eat it, breath it, sleep it. ;D

A very exciting team tb, but we need much much more grunt coming out of the 'gates of hell' from CHF, I don't think Patto will drink blood when it came down to the crunch. If Reiwodlt could put on 10kg+ of muscle he'll be a great canditate...................I know, I know, he is tad smaller than Patto, but he has grunt, I would of used another word but this word is banned.
