Team v Fremantle

Cause of his amazing pressure. Apparently he's even better at pressuring the selection committee.
He's as good with a camera at 11.50pm as JON was with a lawn mower on a Sunday morning.

Elite!

Perhaps (with all the metrics available to the RFC) the absence of Mansell saw a drop in our ability to contain the ball within our F50?

Perhaps bringing MRJ in is aimed at improving this (while also seeing if he is developing as tasked)

Guess we'll see.............

Yes sir, perhaps. Outdated philosophy to be able to get the ball I know. Flies in the face of Yze's claim players are being selected on merit. What recent performance has merited this? Based on this am happy to see him get a game once he s found form in the VFL.

If Freo want to be talen seriously and be contenders this season with the two sides taking the field this weekend.

Frockers should give the Tigs the mother of all Humpings.

Strangely I do think MRJ plays better at AFL level then VFL. Based on stats last week it’s an odd decision but he’s proven before he can perform at AFL without dominating VFL level

Must say the treatment of Smith has been on the whole pretty ordinary.

Wouldve given him this week before omitting him if he struggled.

Not a great deal of difference in the averages, same amount of average games and we are in fact older by average:

Nothing the mc has done this year makes any sense.

Some players get blocks of weeks (or months) to prove themselves while Smith, like last year, gets the sub, in, out treatment.

I'm Rioli's biggest fan, but he's been played out of position, and out of form, and now comes in on a hiding to nothing. I love him, and am looking forward to him playing, but this was the wrong moment. Did someone mention selection integrity?

I can see Sonsie's on a wing again, a position he hasn't ever played in the twos. Ross is, infuriatingly, back at half forward.
After a best on ground performance in the mid in round one, he hasn't been allowed to play there since. Has attended 25 centre bounces all year as opposed to Taranto and Hoppers 101 and 95 respectively. Even McIntosh has 53. This is just sillyness.
Sonsie dominated the VFL as a mid. Zero centre bounces this year. Not even a one to see how you go. Zero.

Ralphsmith's back. Okay. One decent game, straight back in. I expect he'll get an 18 week block to see if he can contribute. Gray is where? Bauer needs form, and Gray is in ripping nick. What did we hear, selection integrity?

What are we trying to achieve? Are we really going to have to sit through another 2 and half hours of plodding geriatrics in the midfield? We had mentally prepared for a year of development, seeing what sort of chassis we could start to build from the new components we have. Instead we're trying to stick bandaids on a jalopy with a seized engine.

Hard disagree. His pressure is elite. It's his offensive stuff that's below par. I'm sure @Meteoric Rise can provide all the supporting data.

Be Intresting to see the data , if I go by what my eyes tell me is he dosent put anywhere near the pressure and repeat “ chases “ that the 3 amigoos used to , obviously it’s a bit easier to stay fresh when there’s 3 of you doing the same job . No doubt some of his run downs are outstanding and hugely team lifting , however there’s a lot of half arsed attempts due to the fact I’d imagine he just never has that tank and fitness base needed for the repeat efforts . In saying that I still prefer my small forwards firstly to have the ball in their hands and kicking goals rather then been got chasers because they don’t have the ball .

Again I just feel MJ gets looked after with selection and opportunities more then others with similar out put , has he ever been sub ?

I doubt now MJ makes the grade , in saying that I hope more then ever I’m wrong , however if Dimma came knocking I’d be glad to take a pick for MJ , with a little luck I can pull a Tooheys and MJ will kick a career best 3 goals tommorow 😉

It's not his name, it's his pressure.

We all want him to get more ball, to be more damaging with it. I want him to play a month on-ball in the twos. But without Mansell our forward pressure drops off and MoJu is the only one in the twos capable of providing it.

I feel like his development (offensive output) is being hampered by the need to deploy him as a pressure-first role player.

Not that I agree or disagree with anything you say CT , however I think we need to realise this season is quite unique in team selection at both levels ,to start the year we have 5 ACLs something never done before so that’s a huge amount of the list basically unavailable fir half the season , also we have so many cubs with one or two pre seasons that will be rotated and have more weeks off then seasoned players , FWIW I agree re Smith , however I keep telling myself it’s the big picture not each weeks selections .

It's the big picture that concerns me most.

I don't know what big picture has Taranto, Hopper and McIntosh as our midfield future.

Like it or not Taranto and Hopper ( excluding Prestia as sadly he appears done) are atm our best 2 midfielders , we are limited in genuine midfielders as we all know , Lalor is starting to get some minutes in there but there’s no way after an interrupted end of last season and pre season that he’ll get huge time in there , Smillie is only just getting back to VFL , imho TT and the Hop are not as bad as many claim , however no matter how we rate them the MC are very limited in what they can do with the midfield rotations atm , these 2 may not be part of our next flag , however they are both crucial in the development of the cubs at this point .
Kmac similar , arguably still our best wingman which is a bit of a worry , however like the others he’s doing a role that is somewhat protecting the cubs , when the cubs come through and are ready I’m sure Kmac will be moved aside , similar with the other 2 there midfield minutes will decline less and will need to find a second string to their bows .

They may not be the long term answer , however they are the best we have atm

I love McIntosh, but this is his last year, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if when he hits the 200 game milestone (5 games away I think) he pulls the pin, or the decision is taken out of his hands. Would that give us the MSD pick? At present he’s just providing some protection for the young players coming through, and as Mr B said we’ve got 5 ACLs. Most of those are players who will be picked regularly once they’re fit. Players have to make way for them.

Prestia needs to retire to give us a MSD pick.
KMAC is so limited, but he gets picked because he's still our hardest working midfielder. It's where our list stands currently with all the midfield draft busts of Clarke.
