What has young Alex shown you to suggest he can hold a key defensive spot. Cant outmark or outbody even pedestrian talls at Coburg and has absolutely no guille or defensive smarts ( which is really a core requirement for a defender)

Depends if you are looking for positive or negative signs. His age, size, speed and ability - he just needs 3-4 more years. I've seen his ability to run hard into space from a contest, usually doesn't take a backward step either. Coming out of defensive half his vision is usually good enough to see and choose the right option (see Rich v North) and you will notice him attack the centre corridor and hit the target so those that knock his kicking are kidding themselves. His one on one strength needs time but in the modern game he will most likely be useful on leading key targets due to his endurance and pace. He will play this week and I'm certain the match committee sees it the same way. If you watched the coburg game, he plays on at every chance and creates play from the backline - rather see him play every day than J.McM.

Do you remember McGuane's first game against Sydney (O'L) - he got smashed. Should we have traded him because he couldn't out body and beat a champion? I do think we have a healthy list of tall defenders that could attract attention trade time but Rance certainly isn't one to be traded.

Only change this week I think is Rance in.

Did it successfully last week. IMHO Rance's problem isn't that he can't, its that he's got the idiotic notion in his head that he can be a midfielder. Last weeks match looked to me ti be a step forward in that regard in that his first thought was on his man and fro there he tried to attack.

Fair enough that's your opinion, but you have only given evidence of why he should be a rebounder not a key defensive player. My point is that if he is merely a rebounder I'd prefer Connors or Collins or Edwards. I've watched him at Coburg a fair bit and he has energy and can find the ball off half back but he still gets taken to the cleaners most weeks. people talk about tall defenders but he aint one of them - he plays small - Edwards is a better bet on Fev or Lance than young Alex.

Says me. He was okay but nothing special. However I would still prefer him im over Silvester against the Dee's to get some AFL experience.

My revised list (after learning about Foley)

OUT: King, White, Silvester
IN: Collins, Thomson, Rance

Play Rance on Jurrah or their best contested marking forward, he needs to start learning how to play the body in one on one situations as a defender.
Barley Charlie - Thomson has to earn his chance, not gifted. King was good, white, not his best but he gives a spark.

I fear its a bit late to learn that now. Cant play one on one. Doesn't know when to stay or go. Has a wide turning circle. Is led under or away from the ball. Cant kick, makes poor decisions, handballs at a million miles an hour usually to someone standing still. Gets lost and loses his man. His nickname is apparently"onepace" , should be "onetrick pony".

Gee Lamb22, why don't you tell us what you really think?

Reading your comments, it seems that Rance should just give it away - the kid just has no future. No positives whatsoever. He has not even played a full season & he has convinced you he is a dud.

No wonder us Richmond supporters are mocked so much.
