Telstra Dome renamed

Personally I don't see the problem. Good to see foreign money invested in Australian AFL. And lloks like the marketing is working too, who else hear had never head of 'eithad arlines' before this thread?

Foreign investment?

I'd rather call it foreign ownership.

Apparently the goal posts will be rebuilt as mosques.

When will this country simply name stadiums after past champions instead of commercialising everything.

When we have the population and industry to afford such a luxury.

Don't hold your breath.

What's population and industry got to do with it?

In the case of Telstra Dome specifically not much, but you were making a broad statement about when will this country name things after champions, but in a lot of cases in sports it's because clubs / organisations need the money.

Telstra Dome is different, but what do you think consortium's and investment companies build them for? To make money. This is a big part of the way they do it. In a marketing sense they are building a billboard as well as a sports stadium.

Bet you Vlad is trying to sell off naming rights to certain Fixture Rounds next year, ie:

Round One - The Bundeberg Rum Round
Round Two - The Coles-Myer Round
Round Three - The Crazy Horse Cinema Round

You can scrub 3. If you reckon the Women of the AFL fired up about Newman, how quickly do you reckon they would fire up about this one :hihi

Nice to know you've actually been, be like walking on chewing gum going down to the front row seats.

Naming rights to a stadium. What do they actually own?

Naming rights can possibly lead to further money invested in the stadium later on in time which then could lead to ownership. I don't like naming rights no matter which company it is, but if it needs to happen, why not have an Australian company invest in naming rights and keep the money within our financial system. This is all due to greed IMO.

When has this EVER happened in Australia?

And also why did no-one complain about Emirates getting involved in footy? They come from the same bloody place.

Naming rights doesn't lead to ownership of the stadium. What's wrong with naming right anyway, a perfectly legitimate way to raise money. Win win situation for all. As for a foreign company investing, look around. Many of our large Australian companies wouldn't be around, and many now successful companies wouldn't have gotten off the ground if it wasn't for foreign investment. Today foreign investment is a critical component of a stable economy. If you haven't noticed as well, world financial markets are currently in crisis. Many companies are tightening their purses so it may be that no Australian company was willing to pay up market rates for naming rights. I just can't see the major issue. To me, the fact that Vegemite is owned by a US company is far more disappointing than a foreign company investing in one stadium for naming rights over a defined period of time.

Enough said, getting a bit too political for a true-blue footy forum :P

I'd rather talk about a stadium with a stupid name than watch australia play cricket...bring back the tigers, all is forgiven. At least they were always a chance of winning.
