A team full of youngsters plus a few vets trying their hardest, with one noteable exception.
A team well matched with their opponents in regard to endevour, again with one noteable exception, - but no where near their opponents in regard to skill.

A team which is still no where near beating the top team in a finals match and therefore no where close to needing a top up player in preference to a number 5-9 pick 200 game midfielder.

Heck Terry if after to-night you are still thinking of trading our first round draft pick for Kerr you will forever be seen as a coach who tried to save his job by putting the teams interests second to his own.

Mo', I reckon Terry's ally in this folly is gone. Because we're all over the folly. We'll see.

The loss last night highlighted our 2 major deficiencies at this point in time. If as a club we want to take the next step our priorities have to be skills and size. Currently we have too many players who cant hit a target when under no pressure which at this level is inexcusable. No need to name the players as we all know who they are. We are also lacking in strong bodied players. Players like Thursfield, McGuane, Tambling, Edwards, Brown, Foley etc are not going to get much bigger than they currently are. We need more midfielders with a bit of size about them to compliment these players. Have a look at the Geelong side of last night, not a weed amongst them, with the possible exception of Mackie if you could call him that. This is what we need to aspire to.

I would use all our draft picks this year on big bodied midfielders plus a ruckman. The recent premiership sides of Geelong and West Coast shows you dont need a great forward line to win a flag, essential is multiple quality midfielders with the ability to gut run and hit a target.

i reckon McGuane & Thursfield may bulk up in time. these types tend to around 25yrs of age (notable exception David Bourke).

Edwards may develop as well but not sure. Tambling is likely to stay as is.

Foley & Brown, well they won't get bigger.

Cotch has good size about him for 18.

Last night again highlighted the folly of recruiting McMahon. He is 25, has around 100 games experience, and is physically in the prime of his career much like the core of the Geelong team. Yet, McMahon has the body size and shape of Edwards and doesn't even provide the same level of physical presence.

It was painfully obvious from last night we need much more size across the board and while some of that will come from natural maturity, can we afford to sustain the all of the likes of Edwards, Foley, King and McMahon in the same team going forward?

I saw a couple of blokes who were out of the team when we were playing good football, who have somehow crept their way back in to the side when I thought they had had their papers stamped 6 weeks ago

nice post mopsy and accurate. skills and structure and size sums up the over all deficiencies pretty well, and it showed las t night. it showed what is desperately needed.

my gripe is why hasnt rance graham collins connors been given a go. finals are a pipe dream i really wish we were playing hawthorn this week at least these kids may then be given a go the last 3 games.

who here would give up our first round draft pick for kerr? i think we should seriously consider it. i think we need more depth in the midfield.

No one I hope. We stiil have a long way to go to become a top side and while taking Kerr might help us creep into the top 6, it will get us no further. Far better to go with a Ziebell or even a Hartlett and take the time to allow them to grow into a midfield of Lids, Bling, Foley, Cotch, Edwards and White.
