I'm quite comfortable with our efforts this year considering our tough draw and our horror run with injuries.

A fit browny combined with newman, cogs, thursfield next year and we could see some sept action at last.

Things are looking bright!!!

Thursfield is coming back from a knee-reco.....and we've seen from Gas's experience that coming back from a knee-op, in a key-defensive position, is going to be hard as well.
Ben Rutten has done a knee and it hasnt stopped him becoming a AA FB.

Checkside,
Did he make it to All-Ausralian the year after he did his knee, do you know? or?
No, but who expects Thursfield to be All Australian.

Not me....hence my post saying how hard its going to be 1st year back after a knee-op! ;)
But there is no reason he cant have a impact.

If he was a top 10 draft pick you would all be going bananas, give this guy some credit!!

I think Foley's getting plenty of credit for his efforts on the ball.
Top ten draft pick? It's even better that he's a rookie IMO.
From what I saw on Sunday this kid will be a serious player.

Look to Raines to take the reigns :P from Sugar in a couple of seasons.

Agree, much better comparison since Raines and Foley should have completely different roles. Raines would be wasted at the bottom of the pack where Foley will spend a fair bit of his time.

And what better training for the midfield tagging role that Sugar currently takes, than 50 games in the back pocket minding the small forwards.

Will bring out his leathers for this week Hot August Night

how embarrassment. i really hope they don' do this daggy hot august night thing. some of us supporters don't live in the past ::)

Terry's always the salesman. He knows if he talks up Raines for the B&F that it will help his NAB Rising Star campaign. He has no hope for the B&F but a good shot at the Rising Star.

very nice thinking

Could the Dogs do what the Tiges did in 93 or 94 were we lost the last 2 games by well over a 100pts & kicked out ourselves out of the finals ! (Only joking).

Actually we didnt lose both by 100. We lost to Carlton by 113pnts and Geelong by 76pnts.

Even if by some miracle the Doggies lost both their last 2 games by 100pnts we would have to win both ours by 100 as well in order to make it!!!

here we go again ferals putting kids up on pedestals who have done nothing proven nothing and have such a long way to go its not funny.there is a hell of a lot of reasons why thursfield wont have and shouldnt be expected to have an impact next yr.
anyway rutten is a 100kg gorilla whos main asset is his strength and size. thursfield is a scrawny matchstick who relies very much on his pace at this stage of his career.coming of a knee he will lose a yard or 2 for awhile. its probably a very good bet that we wont see thursfield untill the arse end of next yr if at all and that is what the expectation should be..

Thursfield has got all the tools to succeed at this level, however Claw is spot-on here.
Whatever Will does next year is a bonus.

Exactly...but the same leverage should be given to Cogs and Newman as well, seeing they have had just as bad, if not worse, injuries than Thursfield.

At least the emergence of Raines/White will cover for Newman....and Foley/Howat will help cover Cogs.
However, tall defenders are a rarity for us at the moment, especially when we started playing Thursfield to cover for Gas, and now who is going to cover for Thursfield?

Thursfield's got a long (hopefully massively successful) road back, from reports. It was not a regulation knee, I believe.

One of the reasons for the extra year in coming back from a knee reco is that the hamstring (from which the graft is taken) takes about a year to come right. So players lose speed, power and acceleration.

Cogs might suffer a bit from this.

Newman's fracture was reported at the time to be much cleaner than NGB's. So the prognosis is better. We hope.

Shocking volley of injuries.

Yeah - I beleive it was one of the worst knee injuries the surgeon had seen.

- disappointed about fox footy, feels for country people, NT viewers etc who rely on it for news
- disappointed not making finals, but used 39 players this year and unearthed a few. White, Foley come on and Howat. Said Cam was example to jrs not to give up, as he had matured with a stronger body now.
- recruiting now allows for rookies. Means system now better than ever to find talent. Allows for maturing of players. VFL, SANFL, WAFL all similarly good groundings for jrs not drafted, but Vic kids dont get aligned with clubs, so need to knock on a few more doors.
-Humm- consistent at VFL level but only 1 game. (Terry didn't expand so i think Jeremy's time is up).
-Mooney- someone elses problem. Can give players discipline but up to them in the end. Thinks mentoring program works well (putting together similar types).
-Raines would be well up in B&F count with Simmonds, Bowden, Johnson, and maybe Pettifer. Backed away a bit that he would win, but said his season had been better than Lids last year as he is 19 & Lids was 17.(Clarifying rising star comments)
-flag- no standout but WC in best shape. Adel still a chance despite injuries catching up with them. All teams seem to have a flat spot.

Terry is a very good media performer.
