Terry Wallace...EPIC FAIL

what infuriated me more than anything on the weekend was Wallace saying the day before that we would be all out attack attack attack. So what happens? We play that crap kick to kick in the backline. absolute disgusting boring footy, it's laughable.

mainlandy,
To me, it isn't the bloke with the ball people should be slating.....its the lack of run from people up the ground who refuse (for whatever reason) to run hard and provide options for the ball-carrier.
The player with the ball is so *smile*-scared of turning it over when they see nothing up ahead to kick to, that they start looking for the short option (by hand or foot) to keep possession of the ball.
The next problem is that we don't have the skills to keep that 'possession style' footy up....so it leads to turnovers in our back-50, and ultimately goals.
I think a lot of what is going on at Richmond at the moment stems from wallace's stubborness in gamestyle (in which he has had 5 years to develop players to play it and draft kids who can kick to pull it off) and not changing it to suit the reality of the players at his disposal and the skills (or lack thereof) that they have.
He needs a game plan to suit the players because he surely hasn't got the players to suit his game plan!

Out of interest, what has happened to Tony Free? Seems to have gone underground since his initial rattling of the cage. Does he have any influence at the club?

I think this is a first but I agree with Craig :o

TW lost me with his explanation last night regarding Bling's performance yesterday being down based on not having much sleep because of his new born. Well stuff me, as has been stated all over the place why select him in the first place?
The match committee must also hang their heads in shame on this one. I didn't think Wallace had the final say anymore, but perhaps I'm wrong.

There have been chinese whispers about some people at the club p!ssed off because certain players are getting games for doing zip whilst others miss out. This happens at all clubs I'm sure, but no wonder some of the guys missing out on a spot would be disenchanted when the senior coach goes on TV and sprouts that sort of explanation "he was tired". For a media savvy guy that was underwhelming to say the least and a sure fire way of building perhaps more resentment.

Then follows up with basically not expecting too much in rounds 2 & 3 playing last year's preliminary finalists, in other words didn't plan on winning those two. How can a coach go to the the supporters etc with comments like that? Keep them too yourself, whatever if that's the way you feel privately, but you are paid handsomely to produce an AFL quality team with all the trimmings required and that includes confidence which is to me the biggest thing this club lacks, confidence to stick with the task even if it gets a bit willing, but it sounded like he's resigned to the fact that it's all over, the body language was poor.

I really didn't think he was a quitter, because he never played that way.

But to then to top it off pretty much blames the player's poor skills and the answers a question with "well who do you want me to replace them with?" Well Terry that's again where you come in, you've had at least a couple of years after removing some driftwood to mould the playing group into doing what you want, how you want and in choosing the assistants you have, to execute the way you want. Guess what the buck well and truly stops with you.

Must admit I honestly thought back in 2004/5 that the club might be a power again by the end of the decade but I feel that's more like the end of the next one, we've gone around in circles for 4 years and are still producing inept performances year after year.

bah!

Well said. Terry lost me yesterday. At the beginning of a season if you don't have players who can replace under performing duds after 5 years and therefore there is no pressure on those duds to say, perform, you better not let the door hit your arse on the way out

Spot on Livers!

You could see it start to happen with 5 minutes to go in the first quarter. The sideways & backwards pannicking kicked in & we were gone from there.Hence, that when the giggling started!! ::)

Good point was thinking that myself.

Seems to have been in hiding ever since the earlier fiasco.....

Calm before the storm?

I don't think Freezer's appointment had the fairy tale beginning the Board would have expected, both due to questions about his internet posting habits, and as a result his honesty and integrity, and his charging though the club like a bull let loose at Pamplona tearing through anything in his path.  I suspect he's been gagged bigtime and made to take a back seat.  As with all directors I wouldn't have a clue about their individual roles or what they actually do.

The entire coaching staff must go.

If Wayne Campbell takes the coaching job the RFC will not get another cent from me till he is gone.

For once just once get this process right FFS.

Campbell was a selfish player and one of the catalysts behind the clubs problems and lack of leadership and success.

Bloke held the club to ransom by threatening to go to the Kangas and effectively got Knights arsed out of the captaincy.

NO THANKS Campbells history is associated with failure at a club that has no culture of success. This club needs the direct opposite.

Great post Craig, people should be aware of what sort of baggage Campbell still carries.

Never did deserve the captaincy, I reckon he was the softest captain going around back then.

It was that bad in the 3rd quarter yesterday, i was actually laughing.
I hear ya dude.

Sometimes it is the only option; for sanity's sake.

I have been a big supporter of Wallace over time but I am just about done. While we have list deficiencies still - I remain confused about what we can & can't do. Last season - finished strongly - 8 out of 11 & the last team to beat Hawthorn. People can bluster all they like - but the fact remains that they (Hawthorn) took the field attempting to win & we beat them well & were the last team to beat them for the season. It was not a cheap win - it was a good win. We also absolutely flogged two teams we have found it immensely difficult to beat on their home turf in West Coast & Freo. Yes, both were struggling but it never stopped us losing to them over in the west in the past regardless of ladder position. Now......in one quarter at Geelong we kicked 8 goals against the team that ( I know I shouldn't say this as it denigrates the Hawks win a bit) won in 2007 & should have won in 2008 & will be bloody hard to beat in 2009. What did we do for the other 3 quarters ? Played like children with no direction & no idea. I was quite happy with the first 1/4 against Footscray despite the knowledge that they (dogs) were turning the ball over. 5 minutes into the second quarter & anyone could see we were going down.

Interesting that when the better teams are struggling - they regroup & reposition. When we struggle - we go down faster than the titanic.

For pretty much the past 10 years we have tried to play a possession game.........Excuse me ?? We have never had the skill or brainpower to successfully play this way. Imagine how many goals the great man (Richo) may have kicked in a team that got the ball in quickly to him one on one with suitable delivery ? I get incensed with the tiny weeny little handballs we give out while circling backwards & losing ground & when we do dispose of it - we handball at a blokes knees or ankles or behind him thereby causing a contest & ultimately loss of the ball. It is an example of appalling skills to handball in such a fashion. The whole team is to blame for the lot. I am not singling anyone out here.

We are an appalling tackling team & have been for a long time. Why ? Collingwood rolled Geelong by over 80 points last year. Why ? Because they pressured like mad & it took it's toll on the cats. Leigh Matthews uttered a now immortal saying before the Lions first flag. "If it bleeds you can kill it".... Pressure & it's closely related cousin "implied" pressure are potent weapons. players spill the ball, miss easy shots on goal etc.

We do not shepherd well. Our players don't seem to understand that when we get the ball & you are in the vicinity you do one of two things (a) protect the ball carrier (b) peel off & provide an option. We wander along in the slipstream & get caught out in the turnover.

Team selection is the province of the match committee - not just the coach - however he has a big say.

The media spin that Terry has rolled out in the last couple of weeks - is rubbish & should be treated as such.

Is it the game plan ? Do we have duds for our entire list ? is it both ? Can a change of coach do the trick ?

I will say this much. We do NOT know how to win.

The Geelong game was there. We fell away.....because we couldn't do it - we lost it mentally & Geelong were mentally stronger & expected to win. We "lost" the game to the dogs last year because we panicked & conceded 20 points in 3-4 minutes.

Winning is a habit.................LOSING IS A DISEASE.

We have smallpox, bubonic plague, SARS, Ebola & Spanish Influenza & the runs & have had for so many years that we have forgotten what it's like to feel well............................................................

Actually I think that was Jesse "The Body" Ventura, in Predator that said that. Or was it Arnie? One of the 2 anyway.

This club needs a hard arse with no ties that will have no qualms telling duds with egos that they are not required.

Hardwicke said it how it was to the Dons heirachy and duidnt get the job cos he didnt tell em what they wanted to hear.

Campbell = Wallace. Same egotistic attitude. I still believe that Campbell was part of Knighta's ejection from the club under Frawley.

Im just sick of his voice. So is the majority of the population!. If we are sick of it imagine how sick of him the players are :o :o :o
