Guys, its not only Terry Wallace that should cop the blame for what is going on. Look at the recruiting over the last decade, how many times have the Tigers picked players that looked the goods, only to have got dud's. The recruiting staff need to take a BIG hit for what they have come up with.
Sheenan's comparison of Richmond against the Bulldogs in terms of recruitment is spot on. So why the hell have the recruiters at Richmond stuffed up so badly????
Mind you, as Sheenan pointed out to Wallace, why does Richmond keep on selecting players that have poor disposal skills and poor decision making skills, you can only put on the paddock what you have available on the list less those who are injured.
I seriously doubt that should the Tigers make the final 8 and win one or even two final games, that Terry Wallace will be coaching at Richmond in 2010. The Richmond Board of Managment should by rights be approaching Leigh Matthews now and signing him up for 2010, then make an announcement accordingly.
That way the coaching issue is resolved. The next critical issue is that the playing group as a COLLECTIVE should be told by the Board of Managment that no one's list position is guaranteed for 2010 and beyond. Now that I'm sure will bring a few howl's (can't be done, cost a lot of money etc etc etc), but everything else that has been tried has failed. Its the players that need a BIG COLLECTIVE KICK up their backsides from the Board for being so damn soft, gutless, undisciplined and list goes on. In fact the Board should go one step further and have all players back training on 1 October 2009, not end of October, get them back early and drill the collective *smile* out of them on the basics of kicking, handballing, tackling, marking, leading, backing up, etc etc. Graeme Richmond would have torn strips off some of these players for the way they represent the team.
If Wallace elected then not to coach out the season, bring in Kevin Sheedy for the remaining games, and go from there.
At the end of the day, I still maintain that the playing group for the Richmond Football Club from 1984 onwards, has been nothing but weak minded, in other words they are not mentally tough enough to cope with the pressures other teams impose on them. Until the playing group toughen up mentally and I mean TOUGHEN UP MENTALLY, then the culture at Richmond will remain the same, weak and insipid, inconsistent and can't handle big matches during the season, which is why finals football is pretty much out of the question for Richmond.
Wallace is history, like a great many Richmond coaches before him back to Tony Jewell in 1982. Its time that the Board of Management got the house in order and cracked down hard on the players performance. If the players don't like that too damn bad, they can nominate to be traded, they're paid to perform and right now they are not performing period.
