Claw, I know what you are saying, so let me ask you this. How many clubs have won a premiership by playing young kids and finishing bottom every year, just so they can try and build a good list? Answer, none.

Wel,this thread is an eyeopener,Ill tellya for free!
Well, this is my spin on the club and the whole coaching trip....
Firstly,I reckon Frawls didnt do a bad job,really...now before anyone starts swingin away freely, this is just my humble opinion! Why?He did get the tigers to a preliminmary final...pretty fair effort...its just so tough to get a year when most things go right. Then,he became a bit reactionary when the heat was on....Take the Bombers in 2000.whether people like it or not, they set the bar very bloody high that year, getting beaten once for the whol year and playing with that intangible sense of invincibility and confidence. Then in 2001,I like a lot of other people thought that the flag was in the bag for the bombers....and nothing,or no-one looked like beating em....Brispain were struggling and I can recall on the Liars website that people were calling for Matthews head on a plate .....then those prophetic words....if it bleeds,we can kill it...and ....I was witness to that game at ther gabba...the  game that created the monster that brispain were....now they had that air of invincibility and supreme confidence......now people are questioning Sheeds......because the teams struggling.....forget the 4 flags he,s coached....
My point?
Ya damned if you do and damned jf ya dont....
Richmond in some ways still a victiom of their success years ago...if ya dont win a flag in two years, out ther door!As much as I want and crave September success, its still relishing every little victory, celebrating the improvrement and the achievement of the young players.....and admiring those who are champions at present....one example of this was the last time we played the doggies...the tigers played some of the best footy I,d seen in years even though we lost thats the example of being encouraged about the teams prospects...but having said all of this....cant help feeling that 2006 will be a defining year for the tigers, one way or the other......and Im relishing the prospect of being right in amongst it!by the way, whats the deadline for the memberships?Anyway, lets get behind Terry,he,s got the gig now and up to now, deserves the benefit of the doubt!Cheers!

don't think there's a deadline for memberships until a couple of rounds into the season nitro... i may be wrong, can anybody confirm a date?

I try not to fall for the lure of the Claw but sometimes I just don't get you. Port Adelaide won the 2004 GF with a team of "hacks" from a list that wasn't developed from youth (Montgomery, Primus, Mahoney, Hardwick, Bishop and more that I can't recall). In fact on paper it had a pretty ordinary feel about. I don't think anyone truly beleives that you can develop a list from youth that will win you a flag. You need a cornerstone of experience and a sprinkling of youth. We;ve got plenty of youth (and will get some more on Saturday) we need more frontline, experienced players to work the youth in with.

port had a pretty solid spine with big bodied talls

FB: Wakelin
CHB: C.Cornes
R: Primus/another ruckmen (ex basketballer)
CHF: Tredrea
FF: Lade

Every one of these players would have walked into the RFC first 18

in addition to this they had speed and footskills and some older flanker types

it was a good balance with good team structure - the spine was pretty damn good

Any "deadline" in usually mid-season (sometime in June, IIRC), and that is for the final numbers for finals ticket allocations.

34 of the 43 players on ports list was taken in the national draft the yr they won the cup.the recycled players they got to the club and the ages they got them at were,m bishop 24 s cochrane 24 j mahoney 27 b montgomery 26 b pickett 25 m primus 22 j schofield 23 d wakelin 26 g wanganeen 23.
apartfrom dont hit me gav and wakelin the rest are just honest players.so i would say in the main port built a premiership team primarily with the judicious use of draft picks.in fact over the yrs port have traded players away for early picks rather than take recycled players.
i have never said we shouldnt take recycled players ihave always said lets build our quality and depth with early picks and once we have built our quality ie deledio and depth then trade for what we need.lets stop putting the cart before the horse and get things right for once.

Here Here Clawsy.

Let me see Morrison, Powell, Fleming, Sampson, Sipthorpe, Blurton, Taylor, Marsh, Weller, Blumfield, Fletcher, Hudson, Sullivan, Robbins, Herman, Steele, Gwilliam, Fox, Mrakov, Frewen, Manfield, Howat, Dundas, O'Dwyer, Breman, Jackson, Steele and Livingstone.
Yep theres a stack of quality there, i still cant see how we havent been any good for the past 10 - 15 years. :hihi :hihi :hihi
