i believe tw's game plan is coming along quite nicely. this is what i think he's trying to do:
- i believe the game plan with is based a little on port adelaide's when they were at their peak.
- when clearing the ball from defence we are almost always switching play.
- when we win the ball, players break from their opponents and run from one side of the ground to the other, creating a link up player taking uncontesting marks.
- once we cross the centre, we try to bring the ball in towards to corridor in an attempt to get a good angle at kicking for goal when on the run.
- they are also playing on at all costs to move the ball quicker to an open forward line.

the bext example of this was the winning move in last night game. after the out of bounds on the full, joel bowden played on, ran past his opponent and switched the ball to the outer back flank which was marked by kellaway. eventually the ball was moved inboard where JON had a shot for goal on the run from 50m. game over.

one playing who seems to be benefitting the most from this is troy simmonds. he's been positioning himself beautifully and seems to always break free from his opponent at exactly the right time.

opinions please...

Agree fully Ian! This is where JB atoned for the Lucas goals in the last quarter. Also JB is the smartest user of the fast kick in rule from a point in the league at the moment - conceding points to allow time to switch play and attack when nothing is on offer from play-on.

It will be interesting to see if Wallet goes with the same game plan against the swans next week.

yes it will be interesting how we go against the swans with this type of game plan, because they play very well against this sort of thing. very good test for us at this point in time.

lindsay gilbee is probably ahead of JB regarding kick-ins, but JB is doing a great job with them. we kicked 3 goals against the blues from kick-ins.

Yep fair call. Haven't seen enough of the dogs this year to comment.

Agree also on Simmo - having a huge start to the season. Pity about the shocking short pass clanger that turned into a goal for the Dons, but hey, I'll allow a few errors from the big lug.

I was seriously concerned about our midfield matchups in the last qtr. Essendon had their best midfield in with watson, johnson and hird in there whilst we persisted with foley who was clearly out of his depth. Luckily plough threw tucky back in there and steadied the ship.
