PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Quite a few times this season I have noticed our players standing 3 or 4 metres at right angles from the mark towards the centre of the ground especially on the wing. This has allowed the opposition player to play on through the mark and run past the Richmond player unopposed and with out any pressure and kick into the forward 50.
I can understand why Terry may have come up with this. He sees the bigger threat coming from players streaming through the centre corridor unopposed and wreaking havoc. It appears to be a part of the zone mentality that exists in other week areas of our gameplay. Instead of instilling accountability commitment and 1%ers we are following a similar theme to the Frawley era where the players are being coached not to lose.
The corral is another part of this not losing philosophy. If you don't commit to making a tackle you can't be brushed aside or baulked.
Richmond players should be coached to be "Tigerish". Play to win. Commit, take risks, build confidence and reap the rewards of hard, accountable football. The Frawley plan failed dismally, the Wallace version is nearly dead and buried as well.
