PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

A lot of talk about Tiges being short of KPP and taking more KPP's with early draft picks. I disagree. Terry is 100% right - mids, mids, mids and more mids. Look for smarts, skill, awareness and then look for pace, pace, more pace strength or endurance. I agree however that the rookie draft is where to try and discover a young tall and we should cast as wide a net as possible

If we are to take GM seriously that 2007 is the commencement of our window of opportunity we wil be well placed for KPPs

Full back - Gaspar/Thursfield
CHB - Schulz/Mcguane/Moore
CHF - Pattison/Hughes
FF - Richo/Limbach

Plus Simmo/Knob and Razor.

Also if you look at the top sides last year you will note few developed their own top class KPP's. Swans brought over Hall, Ball and Jolley as mature players. Only LRT is a home grown product and he is no Ted Whitten.

West Coast - no real KPPs to speak of. The best big man Cox off the rookie list.

St Kilda - the exception to some extent (Riewoldt and Kosi) but they were standouts in their draft year and were best availbale players. Maguire also top shelf. However short of rucks and supporting backs and brought in KPPs in Gehrig and Hamill.

Adelaide - bugger all key forwards - Their backs Rutten and Bock off the rookie list.

Geelong - Lucky with Scarlett (father/son). Other than that no class talls (sorry Brad)

Port Adelaide - Treadrea and Cornes supported by a list of triers from other clubs (Bishop, Wakelin etc.)

If we develop a killer midlield and find a couple of top notch talls from our present crop that will be enough I reckon (Thursfield/Schulz and Pattison look promising and the wrap on Hughes is good) - further if we are on the rise it willl be likely that a disaffected tall from a struggling side (past examples - Hall/Gehrig/Everitt or Fevola) will want to join the party. Bring on 2006 and beyond!!

Go Tiges!
