Agreed i dont know what it is about Skull O Keefe but i cant help but listen the guy is great value for mine anyways.

Yep Roebuck, Lane , Maxwell and guys such as Harsha Bogle, and Fazeer Mohammed from windies, are good to listen to as well.

I really enjoy the radio cricket commentary.

Hear hear - these guys are gold!

Anybody hear Skull's description of why he hates hawkeye and doesn't want it used by 3rd umpires. It's classic. Something about preferring to give the game away than have decisions made by some 18 year old drugged up computer student leaving in a 1 bedroom flat in Richmond.

I can just imagine the credence he'd give to some of the stupid graphs and stats ch9 have tried to introduce to the footy.

We will know by Jan 5-C7 and 10 "only"have to match the bid to beat nine to it. Personally -I hope they do-for the following reasons
1. I have mates in Sydney who are spewing that C9 may get it for another 5 years-the best they can get there is Midnight replays as rugby gets beamed in prime time on C9-the same exists in Queensland
2. Whilst I have fox footy at home and enjoy it-it still only gets into 25% of houses in Australia-C9 will broadcast 4 games a week-the other 4 syphoned off to Pay TV-Footy free to air acroos Australia is the better way to go for the 75% of Australians without access to pay TV
3. There is something about the whole Eddie MCquire/Collingwood/C9 set up that really sh@ts me(I married into Collingwood so this is probably irrational!!)also-I look at their so called committment to cricket-ie cutting to news etc and the absolute cr@p you have to endure(limited editions of posters etc) to watch cricket on C9-to the point-I have given up-give me Tim Lane, Peter Roebuck, Skulletc on ABC radio!!
Merry Xmas all!!!!!!

Even if 7/10 get the rights Foxtel will most likely get 3 games anyway !!!

i can understand about the late games in northern states but you have to televise to your market and if more people want to watch NRL in northern states it would be a pretty stupid business decision to show AFL over NRL. Hoefully if the market changes it might end up the other way around one day.

I think channel 7 paid around 20 million some time ago in order to get the right of last reply in this bid, so all they have to do is photocopy the 9 bid and write in 7 & 10 where 9 used to be and the AFL has to accept the bid.

This is no doubt why channel 10 ditched 9 in order to join the 7 bid, because they knew 7 had the last bid. A dangerous gamble, but it makes sense to go with whoever has the right of last reply.

Those that don't think it matters who gets it, remember that 9 broadcasts 1 game less, so if you haven't got pay TV and the Tigers game turns out to be the game that goes to Foxtel you will miss out.

The one thing that really pissed me off about 9s coverage this time around is the way they stipulate that Foxtel in NSW and QLD can't show any games against their rugby telecasts. So it can be Friday night at the G with the Tigers playing Collingwood and the only footy on free to air OR Foxtel is some WAFL game from last week.

How the AFL can even pretend that this is good for footy just shows how far Demetriou really does have his tongue wedged down the back of Eddies trousers. I really hope 7 and 10 can come up with the dollars so we can see more footy on FTA and interstate.

7/10 to blow the nine bid out of the water ;)...interesting about the eminent sale of telstra dome....jan 5/6th all will be reveiled...

Thats true and understandale, however

thats why we don't want 9 to get it.

Let the AFL be screened on non Rugby league channels.

i agree. i have absolutely no doubt in my mind 7 & 10 will win the footy rights. 9 knew deep down they were stuffed when the joint venture was announced a few months ago, and they only upped the price to force 7 & 10 to pay a higher figure. i believe 7 will pay anything to get the footy back.

i also believe that it is more than a coincidence that 7 are talking about selling the telstra dome right now. as we all know, channel 7 is supposed to hand over the keys of the stadium to the AFL in 2025. they might change that date to 2020 or something like that as a sweetener

As reported today in The Age-

Push to trump Packer bid for AFL TV rights
Email Print Normal font Large font By Caroline Wilson, Christian Catalano and Malcolm Maiden
December 29, 2005

KERRY Packer's final act on the Australian corporate stage — his spectacular $780 million bid to keep AFL football on Channel Nine — is in danger of failing as rivals Seven and Ten consider making a last-ditch counter-offer to snare the deal.

Less than a week after the bid by Mr Packer's Publishing and Broadcasting Limited was revealed, the rival consortium is believed to be preparing a final assault for the prized AFL broadcast rights from 2007 until 2011.

Seven and Ten executives are believed to have broken into their Christmas holidays in recent days to analyse the PBL document and decide whether to exercise their legal right to match it.

AFL chiefs announced on Friday their acceptance of the PBL bid — with every second AFL game to be presented on pay TV network Foxtel — in the absence of a better offer from Seven and Ten within 14 days.

While AFL clubs largely applauded the PBL deal and its financial rewards, the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions are concerned about the rights going to a free-to-air network committed in NSW and Queensland to rugby league.

Initially stunned by the size of the Packer bid, which includes a cash component of $700 million, the rival alliance now appears determined to fight on — despite the threat of slim profit margins and bad feelings that exist between the league and both Seven and Ten.

I'm from wagga wagga where NRL is shown first on friday nites. with the afl on about midnite. Wagga itself would be about 50/50 in popularity with both codes. But "win" television takes in Bathurst and cowra further north which are totally Nrl leaving us peed off every friday nite.So i hope 7/10 pick up the rites. After all this is where King Carey,Paul Kelly,Dave Murphy(swans)Ricky Quade(swans)Paul Hawke(swans)Wayne Carroll(swans)Jared Crouch(swans)Ben Fixter(swans)Colin hounsil(swans) and Brad Seymour(swans) all come from.So you can see why plenty of supporters up here would want 9 to loose it.
