The matter of the #17 being given to the captain has been discussed on various threads so it's time for the official PRE consensus on the matter. Are you in favour or not?
I'm not a fan myself really. I felt when Jack Dyer died we cheapened his name by suddenly naming everything in his honour. I understand the reasons but I think a lot was done on the emotion of the time.
I wouldn't like seeing Richo with a different number on his back. I'm sure most of us would still picture a 12 being there if he ever became captain. I don’t think Campbo ever looked right with the different number on his back. I didn’t notice it as much with Johnno because he had so little time in #28 (did I get that number right? )
On the other hand Brodder was never captain but, like Capt'n Blood, he certainly did the #17 proud, possibly more fittingly than some captains of the team might.
Personally I’d like to think players had a choice about changing numbers or making a mark in their own number, and I suspect most would go for it, but for the sake of this poll I’ve voted “not a fan”.
