The AFL website is a flippin joke!!!!!!

It is a *smile* joke you have to join bigpond to watch the match highlights of have foxtel. I pay over $300 a year for my afl membership i think that should cover the lot the afl are just plain greedy and have forgotten about the working class people and families that support the game.

Sent this to the AFL website today.

"Well yet again I am forced to complain about the quality of the AFL website.

Yesterday prior to the Essendon Richmond game the site was continually down or links not functioning.

We are prevented from logging on to the live broadcast via other means thanks the AFL "us or nobody" approach of preventing other stations providing links to the coverage. If you are going to prevent other sites providing links then you should ensure you can deliver.

The AFL/TELSTRA sites are the slowest in existence bar none. You cannot log into the live coverage usually until 5-10 minutes after he commencement of the game. This means there is a substantial gap between when the radio stations cease there pregame coverage and the AFL provide any coverage at all. Thats if you can get on of course.

I have raised these issues in the past and quickly been told that it is the local ISP provider that is at fault. Well this is absolute rubbish as I have lived in Thailand, Vietnam and now back in Thailand and during that time have used numerous ISP, who by the way make Australian ISP look like the Joke that many people claim they are. Telstra Website are the worst by far of any websites I have ever encountered. I was told that you should be able to login the the live broadcast 5 minutes prior to the start of the game. Well reality is that in 8 years of living abroad this has never happened. Why not allow access half an hour before game time?

By the way I have a 1 Gb connection so speed is not the issue. All of which cost me $35 a month with no download restrictions etc. I find it amazing that Countries like Thailand can provide this sort of service when Australia can't.

Suggest you have a look at the following links if you need to guage the measure of displeasure by other supporters in the AFL/Telstra sites.

The service provided is appalling and I for one would not pay money to access these site. This policy of unless to subscribe to Tesltra Broadband you can't view the site unless you pay is bordering on blackmail..

I don't blame anyone for not subscribing to Telstra broadband if the Telstra run website are an example of the quality and service provided by Telstra.

It seems that Tesltra and the AFL are making a national sport out of ripping off the average Australian.

Don't ruin this great game. It is the game of the people not the AFL Commission. You are merely custodians and if you don't start listening to the supporters this great game will be the worse for wear.

With limited TV coverage overseas most of us have to resort to the AFL site for game day coverage and unfortunately the service is just not up to standard.

By the way your legal threats to the PRE website about having snippets of footage on the website is just typical of the contempt the AFL continues to display towards grass roots supporters."

Will eagerly await there response.

Good work gussie.

I reckon they'll get a few mails this week from Bombers & Tigers, particularly as the site failed to work all day on such a big occasion.

Amazingly poor.

What's the email address BTW?

Mate I went through the contact us section on the website so it didn't show an address.......Strangely enough though it went round in circles a couple of times before sending. Probably a deliberate ploy by Adolf and his gang to avoid any criticism... ;D

I also compained a little while back and received this reply......

Dear AFL Fan,

Thank you for your feedback, your concern has been noted.

Do you think this is a standard reply to complaints?

Yep I just resent it to see if I get any sort of response this time

I had to modify my complaint substantially as you are only allowed 1000 characters.

Geez the AFL have got all their bases covered haven't they. You can't even complain in detail.

Pity Adolf didn't limit his verbose responses to 1000 characters. We'd all be better off.

Finally got a response, but from the Big Pond Team.

Have tried another link to see if any of them actually go to Kryal Castle.

The AFL do a great job of shielding themselves from any criticism don't they.

Do you think this is a standard reply to complaints?

No it's not. The tigers supporters up in Brisbane had an issue with the Broadcasting department last time we played St.Kilda. Brisbane Lions were also playing on the Saturday Night and their game was televised live on both Channel 10 and Fox 1.

We actually rang the Broadcasting Department to complain that the Richmond V St. Kilda game was not being televised in Brisabne. The girl in the office said the only way we could change things was to get lots of people to complain. We all spent 2 days on the phone complaining to the AFL, Channels 7 & 10 and Foxtel. Eventually Foxtel agreed to televise the game on their pay for view channel free of charge. They now do that every Saturday Night when Brisbane are playing. The other Saturday night game is on their pay for view channel.

The only way you're ever going to get the AFL website fixed is to get on the phone in numbers and constantly ring the AFL and Bigpond.

I finally got a response. There response and my reply are attached below for the information of anyone else who has complained.

"Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately you seem to have missed many of the points of my email.

What Tesltra considers normal and what everyone else considers normal seems to poles apart.

The whole range of AFL/CLUB/TESLTRA sites are incredibly slow to load and refresh. They are without doubt the slowest sites I have ever encountered.

You seem to have conveniently overlooked the issue of the live broadcast becoming available after the games have commenced. I have been living in Asia for nearly 8 years and this has been a problem ever since AFL took up an alliance with Telstra. Last time I complained of this issue they conveniently blamed the local ISP, but that is not the case as I have used various ISP in several countries and the same problem continues to plague the site. You will notice if you read the links I provided, that other customers have the same problems.

For me this is not acceptable. AFL and Tesltra have a monopoly on AFL coverage yet continually fail to deliver satisfactory service to its customers.

Regards
