Any thoughts on who might be available bob?

Haven't had a huge look at it. Let me take a quick look for examples and get back to you.

Agreed. Not sure if this year coming up is the time to be buying though. Are we going to be a top 4 side next year?

Who would have picked WC to be top 4 this season? You never know.

I'd be looking at a seasoned KPD and a seasoned ruck. Two glaring weaknesses in our list.

Re: The Blair Hartley Project

How many picks are you giving up for a quality seasoned ruck and KPD?

Trent West, Ivan Maric and Shaun Hampson are three names I had a quick look at. Ivan Maric a Greenvale boy from the North West of Melbourne about to head into his peak probably the best of these options. Probably wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Not a champion ruckman but is a competitive beast and wins his share of hitouts to advantage I seem to recall, without looking at any stats.

We definitely need to recruit a KPD. A big one. A Lonergan type. 197cm type. Trying to find one though is the challenge.

Chaplin is the headlining act, on an AFL website article, urging fellow port players to "ride OUT" the rough times........... we now know he wants to come to Richmond.

Josh TOY , come home factor, releases Lids into the midfield, provides us with a booming accurate kick that has been mentored/coached by Bluey for 2yrs now.

Muscles/Tucky package deal.

I doubt Blair will be looking at Hille. If last year is any guide we're looking at a disenchanted young player who won't cost more than a third rounder or a fringe player.

If you add a list of blokes like that to who FJ liked in their draft year but didn't get... we would go close to identifying a few likely targets.

Re: The Blair Hartley Project

Was it 2009 that we were touted as mabye getting Jamie Charman or was it last year? I don't think he's made it onto the park this year. Any other West Coast or Fremantle talls that won't get a look in while Cox and Sandilands are playing?

Bellchambers is coming on in leaps and bounds - bit like Mumford did 2 years ago at the Cats and the swans were very smart to recruit an emerging ruck with a big contract at the right time.

Problem with those guys is they are every chance of not being an upgrade at all.

We only need someone for 3 years as you say Bob. With that being the case we can afford to go with someone older if that means an increase in quality.

As is always the case it depends on what you give up.

Anyone seen anything of Jarrod Redden from Port?

When looking through all the list I'm not seeing too many upgrades on Graham/Browne that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg, Clark and Leuneberger wouldn't be cheap.

Re: The Blair Hartley Project

With a Maric, West or Hampson the room for improvement in each player is only 5-15% for me.

I would rather take a punt on a Zac Clarke or WAFL/SANFL ruckman who can play that stopgap role if required but there is a chance that they may turn into a really good player as well.

Agreed SCOOP. The price for someone like that seems far more palatable as well.

Re: The Blair Hartley Project

Those in the eyesight will be those clubs with financial pressures.

I still think that Lion Broc McCauley is worth checking in with. He is highly rated at Brisbane but they'll no doubt make him a priority signing if Clarke departs as expected.
Roo McIntosh's injuries are a worry but he's a very good player if can get him fit.

KPDs? Trengove from Port will be on the radar.
Chaplin too would be a target.

and then there's the unstable position of BLake at the Dogs which I would enquire about.

Not necessarily. Houli and Grigg didn't get a mention in 2006 although Slops and Clayton Collard did.

Djurkerra was also in the mix in 2006 but we didn't go for him when he was up for trade last year.

Re: The Blair Hartley Project

Also agree on the Chaplin calls. Add Carlisle to that list who is supringly (to leysy at least) over a year younger than Chaplin having turned 24 only a month ago.

Port could be a club ripe for some pickings in the coming few years.

Both good players without being outstanding. Chaplin a very smart footballer who can get exposed one on one.

Not sure Rance won't be on the same level as Carlisle in 2-3 years.
