The bottoming out theory: Freo / History of the Dockers [Merged]

Re: History Of The Fremantle Dockers - Absolutely Hilarious!!!

if some smart arse were to do something similar about rfc in the same time frame im sure it would make for even funnier reading.
those who live ion glass houses shouldnt throw stones.

Re: Fremantles History (Great Laugh)

Haha ToO...this is the fourth thread about it actually.

Re: History Of The Fremantle Dockers - Absolutely Hilarious!!!

Claw Fremantle is the only side with a worse finals record the Richmond since joining in 1995. Richmonds team building has been ordinary but I don't think we have given up a Bell and a Farmer and then gone and paid top wozzer to get them back. You should try poking your head out of the black hole you live in for a minute or two and you may see the early signs of sunrise.

Nor did we make the decision of giving up a no 2 draft pick for a player like Chris Bond, no offence to Bondy, but he was no no 2 draft pick. Although it wasn't entirely our decision that no 2 draft pick later netted us Meyer and Pattison who are likely to be long term players and in Meyere's case sheer class. What did Freo get out of it? Chris Bond now retired and working for the Bulldogs and Clem Michael also retired due to injury.

just a little reminder of some of our efforts1995 picks 16 and 32 for holland traded murphy for harrison and pick 35 who became b smith.
1996picks 16 35 and 41 steinfort chaffey manfield.
1997 we got pick 2 ottens for bond and pick 21 did something right for once we gave up pick 5 in thisdraft but am not sure where it went and for what if it was part of the ottens dealone would have to say we lost out. we then gave up pick 37 for to wce for todd holmes and used our next pick 53 on lionel proctor.
1998 probably our worst draft ever traded pick 8 for biddiscombe and pick 24 for hilton then used our next 2 precious picks on james white 40 and marc dragacevic 55.
1999 pick 3 fiora wouldnt pavlich look good in a tiger jumper.with our next picks we proceeded to take house hold names like poyaz homewood mills and zantuck.effectively wasting picks picks 22 39 52 and 78.we then traded away picks 37 and 66 for leon cameron pick 37 was mitch hahn imo another *smile* up.
2000 pick 9 pettifer what a waste25 cogs at last we got something right 40 hyde 41 krakouer again wasteful55 newman 57 sziller one of our betterdrafts we got 2 half decent long term prospects in cogs and newman.
2001 the best draft of all time and we dont get a pick to no 33 david rodan who may not be good enough our next pick in the strongest draft of all time never came until pick 63 houlihan then used 68 on redrafting another ordinary player in hyde we got 68 for bourke but still had to pay most of his salary.we gave up pick 49 for hudson and pick 17 and daffy for stafford.pick 17 became james kelly.
2002 we basically traded torney a handy player and picks 2 18 and 32 for johnson and picks 12 28 and 41.we effectively missed wells and picked up duds in schulz 12 traded 28 for blumfield and 41 on fleming used 47 on nicholls and 62 on sipthorp.
2003 traded picks 6 and 20 on brown who was severely hampered with injury in his 1st yr and basically missed his 2nd yr imo pure folly giving up early picks for a 25 yr old when the team has to be rebuilt from the ground up.pick 21 gilmour 37 roach very wasteful probably would of got him in the preseason.53 jackson 64 morrison 70 hartigan 73 tuck 76 raines 79 fletcher wtf 81 archibald at least we finally drafted plenty of kids.
2004 with 5 top 20 picks we couldnt stuff up to badly or could we.

have a chuckle at freos expense lets hope they never get it right. but we should all be raving mad at our own pathetic efforts over the same period.lets all hope wallace continues to show faith in youth as the way to go, and doesnt look for quick fixes like freo continue to do and we have up until the last draft.

Claw, there is one massive difference between us and Freo. We never drafted the right players to begin with as you point out.

They had players of the calibre of Bell, Farmer, McLeod, Clement, Holland, McPhee, Matera etc and let them go to other clubs. Greg Beck never drafted these players in the first place.

We have let go of some high draft picks that resulted in good players at other clubs (Bolton, Kelly, Wodjinski etc) but the players we have let go are not in the same bracket - Murphy, Torney, Zantuck, Ottens and Fiora - would not improve us.

And you are wrong on Jay Schulz. He is going to be a good player. How good he turns out I don't know, but he is the best 20 year old key position prospect we have had for some years.

And in the case of Bell and Farmer went and got them back again.

The shame at Richmond is the draft picks we have let go to get duds or even ex good players who had no contribution left to make, eg Hudson, Blumfield, Flemming etc.

Unless you trade to get a Johnson or Brown why bother. DRAFT DRAFT DRAFT.

Very humble apologies
This is the post that first identifies the web site for the Dockers movie, again my apologies.

No worries billy. I've merged a few. There's also one on the General board. I'll move yours to the Game For A Laugh board where they really all belong and then we've got all bases covered. :hearton
