On a side note, personally I think the "Umpires Award" is vastly overated.
I'm all for keeping the traditon and the name of the medal but I think they should take the decision away from the umps despite the history attached.
Personally I think the coaches of the respective teams should vote the 3.2.1. on the best players during the game as they would have a better idea than anyone on who had the most influence on the result.
In recent years the game has moved too quickly for umpires to get a grip on it. heck they have enough trouble monitoring the constant rule changes. In recent times it's an award that has been dominated by onballers because they are closest to the action and the green/red/white maggots. 8)
